Parisian Chic at the Mark Hotel, Upper East Side, New York

Parisian Chic at the Mark Hotel, Upper East Side, New York. August 6, 2012. Art Deco luxury and French glamour with a bit of funkiness thrown in, the Mark hotel. Certainly has the wow factor. Situated in the Upper East Side, one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in New York City, it fits in perfectly. Surrounded by gorgeous architecture, including the handsome brownstone buildings synonymous with New York, the neighbourhood feels safe and charming. The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges is fantastic. ...

ABC Carpet & Home

ABC Carpet & Home. September 11, 2012. 8216;Carpet and Home’ doesn’t seem to cover it somehow, this shop is 350,000 square feet of the stuff Interior Designer’s dreams are made of. Every taste is catered for and arranged beautifully over six floors in a fabulous building that feels like a huge warehouse. The industrial features and rough luxe decoration is the perfect backdrop for the huge array of styles this emporium has to offer. For my hallway that I had to force myself out of the 6th floor. On a pos...

Decorex 2012 | Eyebrook Design
https://eyebrookdesign.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/decorex-2012
By Alex on November 26, 2012. In September I visited Decorex 2012. An event focusing on interior finishes, furnishings and accessories which forms part of the London Design Festival. Whilst making my way to the Royal Hospital Chelsea on foot (much of the underground was shut for repair after the Olympics), I anticipated lots of baroque fixtures and studded upholstery. Quirky new styling from long running British company Linwood. And a striking stand from De La Cuona. Fabrics by Emily Bond. With a forthco...

Colouring in my home
http://www.kellysparkes.co.uk/colouring-in-my-home
Colouring in my home. October 24, 2012. My house is white, very white, with a touch of pale grey. It has been likened to an ‘ipod’ (a white one I’m guessing) and to be honest it desperately needs some colour. There is a reason for this, back in 2009 I thought it was a good idea to plan my wedding and totally renovate our house in the same year. I remember gushing to people about how romantic and wonderfully old fashioned it would be to move into our new home on the first day back after the homeymoon.

Abigail Ahern Workshop at the Ace Hotel

Abigail Ahern Workshop at the Ace Hotel. August 21, 2012. Dark, glamorous, rough luxe, peppered with vintage curiosities and stuffed animals; the ACE Hotel is the perfect venue for an Abigail Ahern Workshop. Trying to find the hotel I have a mix of emotions, I’m excited, but also have that nervous energy that comes with attending these kinds of events on my lonesome. I was a little skeptical too, would she live up to her book and hype? Will I be moving to the dark side soon? Tagged as: Abigail Ahern.

The High Line, Manhattan

The High Line, Manhattan. October 10, 2012. It’s six weeks today since we got back from New York and I’ve finally got around to sorting out all my photos. For the last week we stayed in the Meat Packing District, at the Gansevoort hotel. We could see the High Line. The planting feels free and wild, like it is has sprung up naturally. Concrete benches seem to grow out of the long grass and multi stemmed Silver Birch from between the train tracks. Even the graffiti is inspired…. There’s a real mix of...

Venetian Glamour at the Opulent Palazzo Barbarigo in Venice

Venetian Glamour at the Opulent Palazzo Barbarigo in Venice. July 26, 2012. Has to be the most romantic hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, perhaps the sultry, alluring dark decoration, the expansive views of the Grand Canal or simply because it’s in Venice. At London Design Week earlier in the year. He even managed to book a hotel practically opposite their headquarters. This intimate boutique hotel is clearly aimed at the designer set, every detail is fabulous. I was so...

Decorex 2012
http://www.kellysparkes.co.uk/decorex-2012
September 24, 2012. Is a trade show for design professionals, situated in the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Stuffed with high end, luxury brands and inspiring seminars it’s a must for the design calendar. This impressive sculpture made from cast furniture by Christoper Guy. Was at the centre of the exhibition, accentuated by the patterns of fallen leaves on the roof of the marquee. There was an impressive array of lighting on display, firstly the gorgeous chain chadeliers from Tiger Moth.

Champagne and Lobster with Laura Lobdell

Champagne and Lobster with Laura Lobdell. August 28, 2012. Small, but perfectly formed, Laura Lobdell’s shop in Greenwich Village is a real treat. Even the number is whimsical – 183 1/8. The pale grey painted brick walls, clever use of mirrors and the beautiful silver painted tin ceiling tiles make the space feel light and airy, despite the bijoux proportions. Even Laura’s cute little dog Xaio gets a special home in a bird cage adorned with Champagne bottle corks and cages. Other quirky pieces include &#...
