April Book Club — designpunch studio
http://www.designpunchstudio.com/blog/2014/4/13/april-book-club
Better late than never, right? Without further ado (after all, we've already had 13 days of ado), I present to you April's Book Club selection:. By Christine Schmidt of Yellow Owl Workshop. Back in the days of Rachel's Sparrow, I started experimenting with printmaking. My gateway drug to printmaking was stamping- an easy way to start learning the ins and outs of applying ink, carving blocks, composition, etc. I quickly tired of store bought stamps (how. I used this technique at Christmas to add a photogr...
Mt. Baldy. — designpunch studio
http://www.designpunchstudio.com/blog/2014/11/2/mt-baldy
We took the ski lift part way up the mountain, which shaved off some elevation. Plus, it was fun. The Wilson gang: Pranav, yours truly, Krista, and Chelsea. Yes, I hang out with my co-workers on the weekend. About an hour into the hike, the sole of my left hiking boot completely fell off. Luckily, we brought MacGyver with us. Pranav, our resident expert hiker and sole (ha! Krista, making this look good. As we got closer to the top, the vegetation thinned out and the landscape became a bit more desolate.

Friday Five: 08.08.2014. We Did. It. Another week in the bag, folks. Pat yourself on the back. We went to Cinespia. The Civil Wars broke up. DON'T THEY KNOW I'M ALREADY HAVING A HARD WEEK? Seriously, though, I'm devastated. Their music tugs on that spot in my displaced Southern heart that yearns for home. Photo source: J.Crew. Love this photo backdrop from a J.Crew email blast this week. Wouldn't it be an amazing wallpaper? Thinking about making this strawberry, quinoa, and feta salad. August 8, 2014.
Up on the roof... — designpunch studio
http://www.designpunchstudio.com/blog/2014/3/23/up-on-the-roof
Up on the roof. Fudgy, enjoying the sunshine. I've got big plans for our little outdoor living room, but unfortunately not the cash reserves to implement all of said ideas. So, we're working on the deck a little at a time, and instead of buying furniture and things to fill it, we're DIY-ing everything we can. We even built our daybed (which will get a post of its own once it's finished), because outdoor furniture is. I haven't killed it yet, which is a huge personal accomplishment. Behold, our mishmash o...
New loom! — designpunch studio
http://www.designpunchstudio.com/blog/2014/7/28/new-loom
From the moment I finished my first weaving, I started dreaming of a bigger loom (confession: I have a tendency to get a little ahead of myself). I love the portability of my first loom, but the finished product is so petite. I knew these big ol' dreams of mine would need something a bit larger. And seeing how my unofficial motto is. I bet I can make that". You can imagine what came next:. Okay, so that's not. What came next. This is a little more accurate:. Happy Monday, y'all! August 4, 2014.

tim van campen: an architect’s artist | robin deliso
https://robindeliso.wordpress.com/2014/05/29/tim-van-campen-an-architects-artist
I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Tim van campen: an architect’s artist. It’s one of life’s mysteries how in some families certain talents pass from one generation to the next, while in others the offspring are woefully inept compared to mom or dad. The Van Campen family is one of those lucky clans where both parents are artists and the two apples (Molly and Greta, as it were) didn’t fall far from the tree, whose patriarch is Tim Van Campen. I believe a society6 (if you don’t know...

I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Hot off the press: maine farm to table. If you’re looking for a food-related #longread, you’ve come to the right place. A few weekends ago, the Portland Press Herald published this magnum opus, “ How the farm-to-table movement took root in Maine. 8221; by Meredith Goad. As part of the launch of. Source: Eating and Living Sustainably in Maine. A new section in the paper. In conjunction with the Source launch, the PPH hired a powerhouse food editor. On th...
maine abstract art report: jenny prinn | robin deliso
https://robindeliso.wordpress.com/2014/05/03/maine-abstract-art-report-jenny-prinn
I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Maine abstract art report: jenny prinn. I will write more about food things soon, but sometimes I will talk art. Like now. So heads up: Jenny Prinn. Is a delight of a Maine-based abstract artist (well, I don’t know for sure that she’s a delight…but I have to think a person that produces work like hers is nothing but a gem of a human. And she lives in coastal Maine. I’ll take my chances.). Check her out! And has received rave reviews on StyleCarrot.
book review: what to eat | robin deliso
https://robindeliso.wordpress.com/2015/02/02/book-review-what-to-eat
I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Book review: what to eat. If the last food/nutrition/heatlh/wellness book I read hit me like a wet blanket, this was the antidote to it. Marion Nestle’s. What to Eat: An Aisle-by-Aisle Guide to Savvy Food Choices and Good Eating. Nestle notes from the outset that navigating food choices is a veritable minefield. Is her best attempt and one that I found helpful. Correct as its authors might be on certain points. The verdict: read Marion Nestle’s. Februar...
seeds for days: happy cat farm | robin deliso

I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Seeds for days: happy cat farm. On a recent work trip to Philadelphia, I was lucky enough to stay near Reading Terminal Market. Anyway, Reading Terminal Market is awesome and includes everything from cheesesteaks to Amish women slinging fruit butters to green juice to cannoli. And in my meandering I came across the Fair Food Farmstand. 8212; and a wall of seeds from Happy Cat Farm. I guess this would come after I join the Whole Foods army? It’s al...
america wants YOU to get in the kitchen. | robin deliso
https://robindeliso.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/america-wants-you-to-get-in-the-kitchen
I like new england, words, food and sustainability. America wants YOU to get in the kitchen. I was in NYC for a quick jaunt last week, and in the 24 hours I was there I not only managed to hit the Guggenheim, walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and tour Park Slope, but I also spent a quality amount of time wandering the TriBeCa Whole Foods. And the Union Square Greenmarket. Union Square Greenmarket asparagus, NYC. That I can cook in a small kitchen, my current setup is too small for even his strongest encourag...

I like new england, words, food and sustainability. Book review: skinny bitch. I remember when Skinny Bitch. Came out not long after I graduated from college. It was super hyped and its two authors, Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, were all over the media. I just joined the library here in Portland. Which is only mentioned briefly in the book as a good ingredient to put on your shopping list. And some people might like three square meals a day as the authors’ sample meals outline, but common wis...Wasn...

designpump | one beat at a time
One beat at a time. Geeks Are Like Candy. April 24, 2014. Just finished “40 Years Of Chez Panisse”. Reading this book reminded me of my grandmothers’ influence on my life. One for her love of cooking, and the other for her love of cooking and gardening books. One for teaching me a culture’s history of food; the other for gifting me books that nurtured a seed planted by the other. A quote from the 10th birthday at Chez Panisse:. April 23, 2014. Well, well, well look at this, a new year! I have mixed feelings on new years. First, let me start by saying that, as my dad would say, it's better than the alternative but I tend to find that January 1 comes with tons of hype and little payoff. Resolutions! And then, come February, not much has changed. Sure, maybe I went to an extra yoga class or two, but enough to justify a monthly unlimited membership? Drop me an email, leave a comment, tag me on Instagram let's make 2015 a good one, shall we? The Wi...

The Unmade Made Bed. I'm liking this haphazard approach to styling. It seems a lot more real to me than tight hospital corners. Not that I want to crawl into someone else's messy bed but the thought of my own comfy unmade bed makes me happy. Especially at the weekend. Hey-o that last bed is mine. I keep it simple in summer with a thin feather comforter plain white duvet cover. Top sheets are too much hassle – must be the European in me. Or the slacker. What do you think of casual styling? Or about the ug...
