When Lynne Bowen enrolled at the University of Victoria to study history for the pleasure of it, she had no intention of becoming a writer. But three weeks after the former public health nurse and mother of three completed a Master of Arts degree in Western Canadian History, a group of coal miners approached her with stories to tell. Lynne will be the opening speaker at Fernie’s Chautauqua and Fall Fair 2016 on September 8th in Fernie B.C. After her speech about Fernie’s and BC’s Italian communities, there will be a spaghetti dinner with the Italian community followed by music by Garth Rizutto’s Band. At 7:00 pm that same day (October 20th) Lynne will be speaking to the Port Alberni Historical Society at the Alberni District Museum about Italian immigration to British Columbia.
