Sunday, July 3, 2011. I just completed a mini course from the IRS "an overview on how to apply" for 501 tax exempt status. I now see why this cost between $5-$6K with an attorney. I'm also guessing that doesn't include the "fees" - the cost for a "group" exemption is $3,000. It jumped from $900 to $3,000 in 2010. I need a group exemption. Where will the funding come from? I don't have $3K - I'm at the end of my own ability to give more. It's funny though - I'm not worried - somehow it'll get covered.
