Hoi An | Despatches from Hanoi
https://despatchesfromhanoi.wordpress.com/2010/07/01/hoi-an
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; KOTO Graduation Ceremony 2010. Lunch with Class 15. July 1, 2010 by Emeline. We traveled down to Hoi An with Jono and Meryl for an extended weekend away. I wasn’t sure if I’d love or hate Hoi An, I’d heard it is a bit of a tourist trap and I wondered how I’d cope with the hard-sell tactics of a thousand vendors and tailors. But I quite liked Hoi An and the locals we met were very nice. As always Brendon and I couldn’t resist hiring some motorbikes to head out in ...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for February, 2011. Cambodian motorbike adventure part 2. Posted in Motorbike trips. On February 16, 2011 Leave a Comment. The next part of our adventure starts in Ban Lung, we’re we’d managed to spend enough down time to wash off the dirt and forget about the aches and pains of the previous days. So when we had to choose between the main road and the ‘scenic’ road, we all voted for scenic. Ban Lung – Stung Treng via Siem Pang (approx 160kms). Total confusion re...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; lunch with Class 15. The great Hanoi flood of 2010. The perfect Hanoi summertime cocktail. July 12, 2010 by Emeline. Hanoi is in the grips of a really hot summer with temperatures at or over 40 degrees and nights sitting on 30. The favourite summer drink of Hanoians is. Mia da being prepared. A little too sweet for my taste, but add some lime and vodka or cuban rum and you have a perfect summer cocktail! I love the restraint of Vietnamese cooking (no doubt born o...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; The great Hanoi flood of 2010. July 16, 2010 by Emeline. I was hopeful that the road would be completed before we left, so a couple of months ago we were dismayed to see work suddenly halted. Perhaps the money had run out? A dodgy construction firm had bankrupted itself and disappeared? I had no idea until I read about it on the front page of Vietnam News recently:. I may yet see the new road finished before I leave. On July 27, 2010 at 2:13 am. Overseas has sele...

Just another WordPress.com site. Stuff White People Like – Hanoi →. August 18, 2010. Make no mistake, Vietnamese as a 2nd language is very difficult. Possibly the most oft-heard story/attempted joke I hear in Hanoi goes something like this:. 8220;I said to the woman at the counter ‘Bao nhieu tien? 8217;, and she just looks at me. I say it again ‘Bao nhieu tien? By using tones, the Vietnamese can cram more meaning into the 5 character limit. One word can have 6 possible tones which suddenly expands yo...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Cambodian Motorbike Adventure Part 3. April 2, 2011 by Emeline. Final instalment of our 2000km trip through Cambodia…. Koh Ker – Siem Reap. On the way to Siem Reap, 80kms away, Brendon’s bike chain did what we were afraid of – completely snapped at 80kms/hr! The ubiquitous fish 'massage' in Siem Reap - note my bruised legs from countless motorbike drops. You can’t take motorbikes into the Angkor complex so we hired a tuk tuk driver for the day. We started at A...Followi...

Dispatches from Longears
I have gardened at Longears, my idyllic suburban patch since 1987. My original garden plans did not include rodents of any kind, but I find, year after year, my gardening contributes greatly to the well-being of RABBITS! I am sweet-tempered under normal circumstances. However, rabbits in the garden are NOT normal circumstances! I have chronicled my adventures in one of the sets on my Flickr site. Monday, March 17, 2014. Enough of a packrat? Is it possible to be a little too free with the trash can? Googl...

Despatches from the Western Outpost. Anglo Irish Bank – A disgusting example of Corruption then….No different now! Asymp; Leave a comment. Originally posted on Awaken Longford. This was the presentation given to the Department of Finance by Anglo Irish Bank September 18th 2008 two weeks before the night of the Blanket Bank Guarantee, we now know that Anglo was lying barefaced but, we also now know that the Department was well aware of the true position, is this where the constructive ambiguity kicks in?

March 18, 2018 · 6:21 pm. INVESTEC 2018 ART FAIR. I enjoy visiting the annual Cape Town Art Fair, but I’m not sure whether the greatest spectacle at these events are the art works, or the audience. I have no idea what the polar bear, covered in pink and cobalt feathers, was all about; who the artist was, or what the work was titled. It was prominently placed, and surrounded by enchanted children; me being one of them. I notice how many artists chose to work with fabric :. Ps:/ www.investec.com/en...Http:...
