Pruning the Roses – Developing Brakes
https://developingbrakes.wordpress.com/2013/08/25/pruning-the-roses
Poetry, photography and questions by Sarah Klatt-Dickerson. Dan and I moved into a house a couple weeks ago, and now have a yard to take care of! I noticed before we moved in that there were a few of rose bushes pretending to be trees in the front and back yard. So after we had enough boxes unpacked to walk around, I went out with some small shears, ready to prune the roses. An hour and a half later, you could tell that the trees were indeed rosebushes, and the wisteria was VERY trimmed. August 25, 2013.
Subtle sexism and a call to pay attention – Developing Brakes
https://developingbrakes.wordpress.com/2014/02/15/subtle-sexism-and-a-call-to-pay-attention
Poetry, photography and questions by Sarah Klatt-Dickerson. Subtle sexism and a call to pay attention. People have said that women are too emotional (and not strong enough) to be pastors. People have looked to the household codes in the NT and used to those to say that woman should be “less than” men, should be silent in church, and shouldn’t teach men. They’ve also used these passages to restrict the “woman’s role” to the home and child rearing. I’ve had many encounters with people who when I tell...
It’s been 2 years: A poem – Developing Brakes
https://developingbrakes.wordpress.com/2013/11/21/its-been-2-years-a-poem
Poetry, photography and questions by Sarah Klatt-Dickerson. It’s been 2 years: A poem. Today marks 2 years since my grandma died. I miss her. It’s been 2 years. I’ve been wearing her. Tears and a smile. It’s hard to remember. She was just a wisp. Barely there in body. I don’t like to think on. My final sight of her. Moved on and she lay. Stiller than I’ve ever. I think about being. A child. She made food. Created a world for Christmas. Complete with a room. She knew how to. And brought the whole. Poem fo...
Waiting – Developing Brakes
https://developingbrakes.wordpress.com/2014/12/15/waiting
Poetry, photography and questions by Sarah Klatt-Dickerson. This is part of a message I spoke at West Hills Friends. First I read Psalm 130. Note: poem contains strong imagery and words. I watched the leaves. Fall off your branches. And the garden begin to die. How do you do it every year? In the shades of night. Stealing away the day. And the earth waits. And I wait with her. But how do I wait. When there’s so much pain? How can I stay. Still when everything hurts? This thing that we. Feels so far away.
A Winter Solstice poem – Developing Brakes
https://developingbrakes.wordpress.com/2013/12/21/a-winter-solstice-poem
Poetry, photography and questions by Sarah Klatt-Dickerson. A Winter Solstice poem. If autumn is a slow death. Then winter is her last step. Life on the surface. Surrenders to frigid air. And gives up its breath, its color, its warmth. The last rose blooms. Fading color invites the. Long, cold silence. Where do you put hope. In the darkest days? How does the world know. That light will come again? Solstice of the sky, of the deep. Deep longings we hold. Break forth your light. Into days only dimly known.

Watch Christmas movies. I love watching movies (probably too much), but movies show other people getting into the spirit of Christmas and I think it is a wonderful way to boost the mood of the season. It’s also a way to fill in days where other things are closed. Recommendations? Get a tree. In Oregon it is easy and inexp...

Stewarding the Vision | Life from the Center
https://lifefromthecenter.wordpress.com/2015/06/20/stewarding-the-vision
Life from the Center. Life is meant to be lived from a divine center. -Thomas Kelly. What Do You See? Do You Want to Know the Answer? June 20, 2015. When I lived in Kansas and now in the Northwest, I’ve gotten to do a good deal of guest preaching. The thing about guest preaching is that you get to share your message, do your thing, and then just leave. You don’t get to know. What happens after you leave, so that’s a bummer, but at the same time, you don’t have to know. What do you see? Well, Jesus is alw...

What Do You See? | Life from the Center

Life from the Center. Life is meant to be lived from a divine center. -Thomas Kelly. Widening the Circle (Jonah Part 2). Stewarding the Vision →. What Do You See? June 10, 2015. We often assume that Jesus knew exactly what to do and when to do it because, well, he’s Jesus. But I think that Jesus had to figure things out and discern along the way. The gospel of Luke reminds that Jesus grew. To engage people’s imaginations and help them enter into the new vision. He provided teachings. He was a channel of ...

The Developing Brain | Back, and brainier than ever!
Back, and brainier than ever! Ah… the familiar white screen stare, the one that always comes before a new post, an email, or a not very funny (often times punny) comment. Oh, how I’ve missed it! How long has it been? I can’t believe I haven’t used the word Philosophizing in such a long time, it’s my favorite word, aside from sarcasm, but still… three years! So, what’s changed since I was a fifteen year old boy? Quite a bit actually…. First of all, I’m eighteen! I’m a thespian now (Ooh! I don’t know...
