Developing Self Reliance

April 18, 2012. We have officially been backyard beekeepers for a year now. It has been quite interesting. Today was an especially interesting bee day! I heard loud buzzing and looked outside. There were bees flying around everywhere in our backyard! Swarming bees are extremely docile since they do not have young or a home to protect. Plus they gorge before leaving so they have enough to sustain. Themselves until they get established in a new location. As I get this ready to post, I realize this doesn't ...

Developing Self Reliance: Time to Prune

http://www.developingselfreliance.blogspot.com/2012/03/time-to-prune.html

March 10, 2012. It is time to prune! That includes fruit trees, raspberries, blackberries and grapes. As a general rule for fruit trees. You need to determine if you have June-bearing or ever-bearing. For ever-bearing you get fruit off this year's growth so cut all stalks about 3 inches from the ground. For June-bearing raspberries, fruit is produced on last year's stalks so you need to cut out any stalks that produced berries last year. Cut out all stalks that produced berries last year. March 13, 2012.

Developing Self Reliance: Freezing your Harvest

http://www.developingselfreliance.blogspot.com/2011/09/freezing-your-harvest.html

September 23, 2011. There are many ways to preserve your harvest. Lately I've been using my freezer and dehydrator more and more. We now get enough produce that we definitely need more ways to preserve our produce than just canning. This post has a few tips for freezing, but I'll post on dehydrating soon- promise. When deciding how to preserve produce, consider the following:. What will my family eat? What is needed in my food storage? How much work and time is involved? Blenders, but wondered about the ...

Developing Self Reliance: March 2012

March 29, 2012. Spray Fruit Trees - NOW. Now is the time to spray your fruit trees so you aren't fighting insects on your trees or later in your harvested fruit. You need to spray your trees when they have buds, but the buds are not yet open. Where we live, that time is right now and will soon be too late. Our apricot tree has already blossomed, but all the others are still perfect for spraying. Have you sprayed yet? When harvesting, do you wish you had? March 10, 2012. It is time to prune! A small hand ...

The Graham Crew: April 2011

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 3, 2011. After Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa Graham came for a fun visit. Grandma and Grandpa took Jared and Nathan along with Kevin to Promontory Point. Grandma helped Amanda and Megan sew skirts. They were able to wear their new skirts to church the next day. They turned out really cute and have since sewn a coordinating one for Rebecca. I'll have to post a picture of Rebecca in her skirt another day. While in Ft. Wayne we drove by the home Todd's family lived in when he was a baby.

The Graham Crew: December 2011

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2012/09/december-2011_23.html

Sunday, September 23, 2012. Rebecca is a sweetheart! She gets so much attention from her siblings. Amanda and Megan are especially good to play with her. Jared attended a robotics day camp at Thanksgiving Point. Jared also won a competition from US Synthetic to draw safety posters that were then used in a calendar. Ethan loves to be the center of attention and enjoyed the skit done with his Cub Scout den. He also received some awards that night. Movie and ate donuts and hot chocolate. During the Christma...

The Graham Crew: October 2010

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 24, 2010. Yes, this post is really about our July. I know it is pushing November, but we have been up to some fun things I'd still like to share. The highlight of July was definitely the Graham family reunion held in Colorado. Fishing with Grandpa is always a favorite activity. All the cousins liked riding the canoes and paddle boats as well as just playing in the water. Jared and Todd went with other family members on a cable car ride and toured a cave. With a little bit of the blanket t...

The Graham Crew: May 2011

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 15, 2011. April had some snow and quite a bit of rain. This made it tricky to work on our outside projects. The school offers a variety of 4-H classes after school that go for ten weeks. Ethan did indoor soccer this time. Amanda and Megan chose a 4-H scrapbooking class where they made calendars. Our momma bunny had babies. One baby died, but we have enjoyed the other three. More importantly if you want any chickens, let us know:)! We had the dirt in our garden excavated and replaced with nice...

The Graham Crew: July 2011

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 3, 2011. We are officially backyard beekeepers! We got our bees the first week of May. We bought a four pound package for each of our two hives. The packages come with the queen in a separate cage, so the worker bees are already used to her scent. Before putting the bees into their new home, we got everything set up between our fruit trees. The middle frames are removed just to make room to put the bees in. We did lose the queen in one of our hives. It took us a little while to realize w...

Irelands Here and There: February 2014

http://irelandshereandthere.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 27, 2014. Family Fun in February. Before moving to Spanish Fork, we often traveled to visit family during the month of February when work on the farm was not as busy and before calving season started. This year, we stayed home and had our Utah families come visit us and did not have to deal with weather and road conditions. Doug and Shannon's family came for a visit. They got here Sunday after church. And stayed until Monday evening, February 16-17. Joining us on Monday along with.

Irelands Here and There: November 2013

http://irelandshereandthere.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 25, 2013. Our Trip to Arkansas to Visit Jeff and Rochelle's Family. It was fun to go to Arkansas to see Jeff and Rochelle's family in their new home. On November 7th, we flew from the Salt Lake airport into Fayette, Arkansas, where Jeff was there to take us to their home in Gravette. It is easy to see why their children love being in their new home with the wooded area, the stream passing by, the variety of nature's creatures, and the adventures they are having. Zack, Jeff, and Sam).

The Graham Crew: March 2011

http://thegrahamcrew.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 27, 2011. We were able to spend Thanksgiving in South Dakota with a lot of my family. As I'm sure is no surprise, there was a lot of yummy food and wonderful people to share it with. Believe it or not, this picture only shows about half of the pies! We celebrated a group birthday party for Rebecca and her cousins Weston, Jamon and Maren. I can't believe Rebecca turned one! Shannon made the super cute cupcakes for the celebration. Rebecca's hair is coming in quite nicely! I also had a birthd...

The Boss is dead. Long live the Boss! July 24, 2015. Everyone has a boss. And wouldn’t life be so much better if we didn’t have one. Right? Common wisdom in most companies is that people don’t leave the company they leave the boss. Bosses have a huge impact on our day-to-day happiness. A bad boss can make you crazy and ridiculously unhappy. It is no surprise then that some of the most out there thought leadership in the area of company design is to do away with bosses!
