DevelopMENTAL Madness: February 2007

http://developmentalmadness.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Use Table-Valued Functions as Arrays in SQL Server. I've started investigating the SQL CLR and decided as my first article to tie in a bit to my article on using SQL parameters in ad hoc queries. This time I'm touching on an advanced topic of sql parameters - how to pass an array as a parameter. This takes advantage of the performance benefit you get from parameters because the plan can be cached for queries that use dynamic IN statements. Links to this post. Mark J. Miller.

DevelopMENTAL Madness: Data Access: Stored Procedures vs. ORM (ad hoc) Queries

http://developmentalmadness.blogspot.com/2009/06/data-access-stored-procedures-vs-orm-ad.html

Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Data Access: Stored Procedures vs. ORM (ad hoc) Queries. I’ve had many spirited discussions over time with my colleagues on this issue. And I will most likely invite a flame war from the developer community for this post, but after reading this post. I was more than a little annoyed and decided to write a rebuttal. As a disclaimer I don’t take issue with the decision to use ORM. Ad hoc SQL over stored procedures. Completely dismissing stored procedures. Logs to troubleshoot perfor...

DevelopMENTAL Madness: TIP: Open SQL Files in a Visual Studio Project Into the Same Instance of SSMS

http://developmentalmadness.blogspot.com/2009/06/tip-open-sql-files-in-visual-studio.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. TIP: Open SQL Files in a Visual Studio Project Into the Same Instance of SSMS. Considering how integrated Microsoft tools usually are the result is frustrating when you tell Visual Studio. To open SQL files using Sql Server Management Studio. SSMS) I really don’t like using Visual Studio to edit T-SQL files but in the past, before I discovered this tip, each SQL file I opened would open in a new instance of SSMS. Try it:. Open a solution which contains SQL files. It would seem tha...

DevelopMENTAL Madness: January 2007

Monday, January 22, 2007. Using a Vista Sidebar Gadget to Consume an Image Feed. Http:/ www.codeproject.com/gadgets/SidebarImageFeed.asp. The process was pretty interesting, I enjoyed making the gadget and learning the technology - I don't think I'll be creating many more of these though. But it kind of wet my appetite for Vista. Maybe I'll throw my hat in for the other competition on the Vista API. Posted by Mark J. Miller at 1/22/2007 07:26:00 AM. Links to this post. Friday, January 12, 2007.

DevelopMENTAL Madness: March 2008

http://developmentalmadness.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 27, 2008. SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS): Databinding with CustomReportItem implementation. I have come to find that I can create a CustomReportItem based on any image I can draw or retrieve (Gdi or any other method of creating an image like the file system or a remote url). So I started looking at the alternative charting options I had available to me through my client's software licenses. Custom Report Item docs: http:/ msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345224.aspx. Posted by Hans B. On February 10, 2014. It is rare that I see a laptop I find worthwhile mentioning. In general, I have had good experience with the Dell Precision line. They have adequate processing power, they are well-built, and Dell doesn’t do too bad in the Greenpeace Greener Electronics ranking. Unfortunately, the M4x00 and M6x00 are a little too heavy for the mobile aspects of my everyday requirements. Which is why I was actually excited to read about the new M3800. Posted by Hans B.
