Abdominal TRAM Flap breast surgery

TISSUE EXPANDER / IMPLANT. This operation uses a flap of skin and fat from the lower abdomen to reconstruct the breast. There is usually enough here to reconstruct the whole breast and there is rarely the need for an implant. Some patients request reduction or mastopexy of the opposite breast, but this can usually be avoided. Excellent size, shape and feel to the reconstructed breast. Ages naturally and in symmetry with the opposite breast. Avoid the need for surgery on the opposite breast.

TISSUE EXPANDER / IMPLANT. Breast reduction surgery aims to reduce the breast size of women with disproportionately large breasts ("mammary hypertrophy"). The problems caused by over-large breasts may be physical (upper back/neck pain, bra-strap grooves, recurrent rash/infection under the breast), practical (difficulty with suitable clothing, exercise) or psychological (self confidence, unwanted attention). An overnight stay in hospital is usually required, but I do not normally use drains in the breast.

TISSUE EXPANDER / IMPLANT. Removal of any large lump or cancer from the breast may result in permanent deformity and asymmetry, particularly when combined with post-operative radiotherapy. The techniques used in breast reduction and breast uplift can be used to remodel the remaining breast tissue into an acceptable shape and adjusting the overlying skin. Although the breast is still smaller the shape is preserved compared with simple lumpectomy or partial mastectomy.

Sometimes, particularly after weight loss, the skin of the breast becomes loose and stretched., All the breast tissue is in the lower breast giving a lack of shape to the upper breast. Mastopexy tightens the skin, lifts the breast and to restores the position of the nipple. Sometimes a silicone implant is placed behind the breast to further enhance the size and shape of the breast.
