Hameldown Tor Guided Walk. Join John Lowe for a guided walking tour to the crash site of this RAF Hampden Bomber. This 3hr walk on Dartmoor will discover how, on the late evening of 21st March 1941, this returning aircraft came to crash upon Hameldown. Tragically, none of the young crew survived. After patient research, documents and other historical evidence have become available that relates to this moment in history. The story of ‘The Boys’. Will be unveiled on this fascinating guided walk.

The four aircrew of this aircraft like all other RAF aircrew were not conscripts but volunteers. They came from widely differing backgrounds and from all parts of the Commonwealth and beyond. Each was well educated, intelligent, fit and determined. All had undergone long, detailed and rigorous training, which in its self was fraught with death and danger to reach this point in their lives. He has a passion for history and after a career in the Royal Air Force has been able to combine his experience as an aviator with that of researching the final operation of X3054, its crew and of its final resting place on the slopes of Hameldown Dartmoor.
