Painted from photos taken this past spring just south of Johnson City, Texas. I kept it pretty loose and impressionistic. I mixed most of my color before painting, mostly in the tertiaries and tried to create a flowing rhythm to the masses of color. There is a little glare on the upper left side of this photo. This was a lot of fun to paint. Oaks, cactus, bluebonnets, a running stream and a sky with wind swept clouds all make for a beautiful spring day in the Texas Hill Country. What a glorious painting, David. The lighting is fantastic as is your use of color, and the feeling of distance is terrific. Welcome Spring is a great picture!

The shadows were just vibrating with color, and I loved painting it. Sometimes you can find so many colors in white, it is amazing. It has been gentrified yes, but it just looks so beautiful when the shophouses are lit up at night. It is currently hanging up in my dining room, and I'll only release it to a very good home, I've been enjoying it too much! Having a rotating collection of artwork is kind of one of the perks of being an artist.
