Conclusions - Diabetes and the Environment
http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org/home/recommendations
Diabetes and the Environment. Type 1 diabetes incidence is increasing in children, but why? When I began this research, I had three basic questions. Here they are, along with the answers I found. Are more children really getting type 1 diabetes? Yes Type 1 diabetes incidence is increasing in children, especially the youngest children, in countries around the world ( Diamond Project Group 2006. If so, why? Could environmental chemical exposures contribute to this increase? We don't know yet. Page describe...
Vitamin D Deficiency - Diabetes and the Environment
http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org/home/other/vitamin-d
Diabetes and the Environment. I didn't think I would be deficient in vitamin D due to my habit of exercising outdoors every day. I was wrong. Below is some of the evidence, organized by timing of exposure, from the womb through ad...
Why is Diabetes Increasing? - Diabetes and the Environment
http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org/home/hypotheses
Diabetes and the Environment. Why is Diabetes Increasing? There are four children with type 1 diabetes in Mike's elementary school. Why? A few hypotheses: Type 2 diabetes and obesity. The prevailing view to explain the increasing incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes are lifestyle factors, especially increased caloric intake and lack of exercise. While these factors are indeed associated with type 2, so are other environmental factors. Kolb and Mandrup-Poulsen (2010). Alonso-Magdalena et al. (2011).

Persistent Organic Pollutants - Diabetes and the Environment
http://www.diabetesandenvironment.org/home/contam/pops
Diabetes and the Environment. From mother to child, with love. Along with lots of love, one of the things every mother gives her baby is a dose of chemical contamination. Unfortunately, even in very high doses, love is not able to prevent the transfer of chemicals from mother to child. A recent study measured levels of various contaminants in the placentas and breastmilk of Danish and Finnish women. The major chemicals found included p,p’. Heptachlor epoxide and p,p’. DDT What the heck are these things?
