Diary of a Young Teacher. Saturday, January 4, 2014. A month before Katrina, in July 2005, Barbara passed away. Reluctantly Robert evacuated before the storm to Lake Charles. He stayed there until 2008, when he finally returned to NOLA to start rebuilding his home. In 2012, when his house was nearly complete, it was once again destroyed by a house fire. Friday, January 3, 2014. Our group is blessed to be staying at the house this week. We got to eat some Po-Boys for lunch! Thursday, January 2, 2014.

Diary of a Young Teacher. Friday, July 17, 2015. Today we took the day off from working with lowernine.org, and experienced NOLA at it's finest. We started the day with biscuits and gravy and then did some work around the Mission House. For lunch we had some delicious Mac n Cheese and then we packed in our vans to head downtown. On our way we got stopped at the canal, waiting for the bridge for 20-25 minutes. #NOLAstyle. After finally crossing the bridge we made our way downtown to the French quarter.

I find this to be more and more true the longer I am married to Bobby. He encourages me to do my best, and convinces me I am beautiful. I believe we need companionship in more than just marriage, though. We need to encourage each other in our faith journeys as well. This need is magnified when going on a fast. Diary of a Young Teacher. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. We had our first day of work on Monday. We woke up and had breakfast and devotions, and were out the door by 8am. We drove the 15 minute drive out of Chalmette into the lower ninth ward and met at lowernine.org headquarters. There we joined with another team from Texas for an orientation meeting. The staff there explained a little bit about the lower 9th ward and what happened in Katrina. Then they split us up into crews of about 5-8 people.
