Gillian's diasporic object study. Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Thali: An Object Sutdy. My mother shared this information with me about her thali over e-mail:. Design of thali depends on religion - Catholics and Christians have the Holy Spirit represented by a dove with wings spread out and the cross, while Hindus will have their Gods, and usually add on additional sovereigns on either side of the thali. 8221; (Anderson, 11). gillian's diasporic object study: historical context-thali

http://diasporicobjectstudy.blogspot.com/2011/02/historical-context-thali.html

Gillian's diasporic object study. Tuesday, February 8, 2011. In describing the historical context of my object I am unsure of whether I should be describing the specific thali, or the historical context of thalis in general. I suppose they are intertwined and inform each other, but it’s a problem for writing this object biography. My object has traveled from Singapore to Canada. More broadly than my mother’s thali, the tradition or practice traveled from Sri Lanka to Singapore. Social and cultural context.

gillian's diasporic object study: thali

http://diasporicobjectstudy.blogspot.com/2011/02/thali.html

Gillian's diasporic object study. Monday, February 7, 2011. The object I have chosen is a wedding thali. However in this response I will be specifically describing my mother’s thali. During a wedding the thali. Is tied around the bride’s neck, and becomes a symbol of the marriage. It is also known as a nuptial cord. In the past women never removed their thalis. Is melted, I believe that my mother’s thali. Was purchased from a jeweler in Singapore. The thali. She always wears her rings but her thali.

http://diasporicobjectstudy.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Gillian's diasporic object study. Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Social and cultural context. There is no one normative way to interact with a thali, and as I have been thinking about it I wonder if I will actually ever have a thali, or if my cousins will have one. Or if when my brother gets married, my family will buy his wife one? The research question I am developing is around how my brother, cousins, and young Tamils engage with their parents’ thalis? Monday, February 7, 2011. During a wedding the thali.

Saiu no banco atrás do motorista,. Dois segundos depois de ele parar. A cara inchada de choro,. O cabelo desgrenhado pelo vento e desespero. Não bateu a porta. Descalça, de calça. E blusa meia-manga preta,. Deu três passos até a calçada. Atirou as três minúsculas flores vermelhas,. A cadeira saudosa está l...

Diasporic Objects

Monday, April 11, 2011. The objects that surround us at every turn can take a variety of roles in our lives. We’ve studied them in the background, in the foreground and somewhere in the middle. This “stuff,” as I so commonly refer to, is all around us at all times. So what of the ones we actually pay attention to? Why do I care more for a particular charm than, say, my best friend? 1 Why was it converted into a piece of jewellery? A) Currency was used for. Fig 3 Shimla, Map of India. To put it in perspec...

The Sopilka | DTS403 Final Project

Iranian Rials (first paper topic). The Sopilka- In One Diaspora, Out From Another. On April 9, 2012. Over the course of the 19th century the rise of nationalism in Europe created cultural and political issues for many and produced imaginary separations that had previously not existed. (Anderson, 83). This also brought on the separation of languages, attributing them as the distinct intellectual property of specific national groups. (Anderson, 84). Anderson says:. In a downtown Toronto bar I finally grasp...

A nation within a nation. A thesis blog on pinoys in nz. August 6, 2012. Data triangulation is one of the ways to make research not only more valid, if we concern ourselves with the general notion of validity, but richer and more layered. It basically means that we look at different sources of information that we believe will open ways to understanding what it is we wish to understand. To my shame, I have always assumed that what I am dealing with in my project are. My research is to deal with people&#46...
