More adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Sunday, April 20, 2014. Buffalo Creek Boys' Ride. Click here to link to the Garmin log. My camera didn't like the contrast in the sky, so most of my pics are washed out, but this rocky peak is Mt. Baldy, himself. Our ride took us in a loop around Mt. Baldy. Much of this area burned years ago, and the skeletons of trees still standing lend an eerie feel to the landscape; the feeling is magnified by bulbous and twisted chunks of granite. It's getting harde...

More adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Saturday, September 27, 2014. Yellow Aspens in Crested Butte. I've lost my Garmin 400! I used it on our Monarch Crest Trail ride, and downloaded the data while sitting at our kitchen table. That was apparently the last time anybody saw it. So no more Garmin logs on our trips unless we can find it. Coming down Westside was nice, once we were out of the rocks and into the meadow. A view from the inside, with Quinn's bike on top. From the pass, the initial ...

The adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Labels: Kids and family. Abbey wrote this story about our ride last weekend:. A huge bolt of lighting just flashed in front of us! We go along as fast as we can. Mud is splattering our legs, and it looks like our bikes are getting a new paint job. “This is a mess! 8221; Dad keeps shouting and Quinn is on the verge of tears. I am freaking out, and Mom isn’t talking much. I look ahead just in time to see what might be… Lake Michigan? I just got off task!

scaqaboutwest: Spring Break 2015 - 18 Road and the Trail Through Time
http://scaqaboutwest.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring-break-2015-18-road-and-trail.html
More adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Thursday, April 2, 2015. Spring Break 2015 - 18 Road and the Trail Through Time. Thursday morning, 9 a.m, give or take an hour, we arrived at the desert trails of 18 Road; our second visit this trip. Being very close to the Highline State Park Oasis of Green Grass and Trees, we could spend the day riding here without having to drive many miles, and we knew Luca would enjoy Kessel Run and PBR. http://scaqaboutwest.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-break-2015-loma-trails-and.html
More adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Friday, April 3, 2015. Spring Break 2015 - Loma Trails and Broken Brakes. Friday. After breakfast, Heather and Chris and Cailan came and met us at the Highline State Park Oasis. Although the campground was nearly full, there were a couple of sites opening up, and after a little trouble with red tape of a sort, they were able to secure a place to camp. Ascending a ledge, Quinn doesn't quite get up far enough on the first try. Squish. Better, this time.

The adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Rain, of course. The Nickel has arrived. This is the replacement for my stolen Cannondale Rize. The Nickel is new model from Santa Cruz. It's a simple single pivot rear suspension like the classic Santa Cruz Superlight, but it has an extra link in the system that slightly alters the shock rate throughout the suspension travel. Check it out here. A nice looking bike in white, isn't it? Quinn made me ride it off the deck while he took pictures. When the oth...

The adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Our local TV station was out at the bike park over the weekend taking some video for a report on the new stuff at the park. Q and I went out to help populate the trail while the video was being made. It was a good excuse for us to ride for a couple of hours. It was especially fun because there were quite a few of our bike park friends there. Click here to see the video. Four Bikes on the Frontier. Time Trial and Two Tandems. I was happy enough with my per...

The adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. I love bicycles. One of the best things about going to a bicycling event, whether it's a race or club ride or a college campus, is just seeing all the bikes. I have to admit that my favorite bikes aren't really the super-fast plastic race bikes (although I do like those, too); my favorites are those with style. Yeah, so the Barry-Roubaix: Killer Gravel Road Race. What a fun ride! Here's the Soma Double Cross configured for the Barry-Roubaix:. For breakfas...

The adventures of Shaun, Cindy, Abbey, and Quinn. Crested Butte - Day 4:. On the fourth day in Crested Butte, Heather and Chris spent the first part of the day with the kids while Cindy and I took our bikes out for an epic adventure. Most writers suggest that if you have just one day in Crested Butte, you should spend it on the 401 Trail. That's what Heather and Chris did the day before, and Cindy and I really considered it. Maybe we should have. On the drive up we passed a few groups of motocyclists, th...
