Digital Cultures Course
Friday, May 11, 2007. For this assignment, I have chosen to compare the entry “Blekinge Institute of Technology” in Wikipedia and in Encyclopedia Britannica. While in Wikipedia I found a short entry with general information about our university, it was not possible to find anything about it in EB. In Wikipedia anything can potentially become an article and, because of that, we are able to share information about any local subject to a global audience. The history to this is perhaps best articulated through the editorial of a special issue of the journal, Information Technology and People, that was published partly as a result of the events. Information Technology and People, Volume 24, Issue 1. Contextualising the special issue. A cursory glance at the literatures reveals much work already in this area at the time, and before. For example, at the International Conf...

DigCult, Anti-Panda Warfare Division. Wednesday, May 9, 2007. I thought the text was rather interesting, actually, considering me as a socio-phobic (at least, to some extent, hehe). In many senses the concept of the mobile "phone" isn't at all relevant in this text since Rheingold relies on its (in some cases, possible) application(s), and not on its function (as a simple communications device). That covered the plot, the characters, ideas behind the book, philosophy and even some of the technology used in it, Britannica only had to offer a small stump. Where "Snow Crash" is briefly mentioned in the final lines of the article. Have we ever been able to do it in the first place? These are interesting questions I think. This blog is only for my new course- Digital Culture. However, I feel a little bit unsatisfied with the searching result in Encyclopedia Britannica, since I couldn't get the adaptive information about "Web 2.0" instead of some links to Wiki, Wikipedia and Libraries. Although the rearching result is incorrect, I still clicked to the linked pages for checking it with my curiosity. The article I got without any subtitles which is different from Wikipedia article's format. With tears in their eyes. I t creat...
