Digging the Dandenongs

Friday, January 10, 2014. Abundance" is a term I'm hearing a lot lately. Mostly through watching the lovely Geoff Lawton's ongoing series of permaculture videos. If you've watched these you'll know what I mean ;). The other day my eldest was out picking beans, carrots and beetroot to prep for preserving / freezing and I could hear her yelling "Mummy! Here she is posing with half of her haul before taking it inside. Her little sister came to the rescue with another basket, a bigger one this time, to r...

Digging the Dandenongs: Pumkins and lemon trees...

http://www.diggingthedandenongs.blogspot.com/2012/12/pumkins-and-lemon-trees.html

Monday, December 10, 2012. Pumkins and lemon trees. I've written this post for Margaret of Stone's Throw Cottage. Who is making a fantastic effort removing environmental weeds and enhancing her already wonderful garden by planting some delicious edibles! Margaret has the perfect location for a forest garden. She has many established trees in an upper canopy, several fruit trees in the middle layer, different levels, a slope, sunny areas, cool areas and lots of native vegetation. The lemon is shallow root...

Digging the Dandenongs: Something for Free

http://www.diggingthedandenongs.blogspot.com/2013/02/something-for-free.html

Sunday, February 24, 2013. You know that saying, "nothing is ever free" (or if you're Scottish - "ye'll ne'er get sumin fir nothing! We'll, today I just want to say that that might be true, but sometimes just a little input can give you a great return :). When the lady turned up, her lovely daughter in tow, it took us about 5 minutes to realise that we had loads in common in our lives and also in our view points on the environment. The quick visit to pick up the clothes rail, turned into a 4 hour lon...

Digging the Dandenongs: Human Farms?

http://www.diggingthedandenongs.blogspot.com/2013/03/human-farms.html

Thursday, March 21, 2013. Are states and countries just human farms? Throughout history, a ruling class has existed in almost every civilisation from the ancient Chinese and Egyptians, to our present day governments. Some argue that this ruling class exists only once societies get to a certain size and agricultural innovation makes it possible for an individual to produce more than they need to survive (consume). Slavery becomes seen as a viable business enterprise. That we are free. In the past, slaves ...

Digging the Dandenongs: Treat Peach Leaf Curl Now! Lime-Sulphur Recipe

http://www.diggingthedandenongs.blogspot.com/2012/08/treat-peach-leaf-curl-now-lime-sulphur.html

Thursday, August 09, 2012. Treat Peach Leaf Curl Now! For those with peach, nectarine, apricot, plum or almond trees in particular, it's almost time to treat your trees before bud burst in order to prevent any hibernating fungal growths from infecting the new growth. As soon as you see the pink starting to show on the buds, spray your tree - it is not possible to control the fungus once it's entered the leaf, so don't leave it for the buds to open. WARNING - Don't get it on your skin or in your eyes!

Digging the Dandenongs: Bye bye bee bee, bye bye!

http://www.diggingthedandenongs.blogspot.com/2012/12/bye-bye-bee-bee-bye-bye.html

Sunday, December 30, 2012. Bye bye bee bee, bye bye! Recently our wonderful, garage dwelling, feral bees ran out of space and a drone cut a hole through the interior wall into the garage. Bees not being the brightest, they then congregated around the rear window to the garage hoping that somehow the glass would disappear and they'd be able to go on their merry way. Just to show that they're not fast learners, a couple of days later the exact same thing happened and again we lost a few hundred bees. David...

Digging the Bible

Digging the Bible is about taking a closer look at biblical passages and truth. Simply reading the Bible will only get you so far, but with a little extra time and effort we can see the important truths we typically skim by. Friday, September 23, 2011. Link to the Book. Monday, September 12, 2011. Are You Really a Christian, Really? Did Christ call you? We did not choose Him, but He chose us. Your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.”. You can’t ...

In Public In This Week. Last Monday, the June freshman live concert took place. On every Monday, my classes are only in the morning; speaking and German. So after the German class ended, I joined some members of my club, and went to the live music club, where we held the concert. I’ll talk about the time when I was asked by her in the next contribution because in this time there were not enough the number of letters left. After a ling time. I’m sorry for a delay yet again. And I dislike the cold. In ...

Een lang (iets té lang) a...

And then I will get busy on my next batch of seeds – tomatoes, cucumbers, and a variety of flower seeds yet to be decided. Meanwhile, outside, more seed sowing got under way – onions, new potatoes (Charlottes) broad beans and spring cabbages have gone straight into the ground. I feel like the gardening season has truly arrived. Leave a comment ». Sowing the seeds for happy memories. We’re still harvesting last au...
