The Raspberry Glut – Digging the Earth

https://diggingtheearth.org.uk/2016/09/21/the-raspberry-glut

September 21, 2016. September 22, 2016. Grow your own fruit and veg. It’s blissful to be back on the plot again, and I’m beginning to understand the “gluts” that people have spoken about. Our first year “in production” gave us some fruit and veg which I was thrilled with but definitely not more than we could cope with. We’re very keen on the nutri-bullet in our house, so the main thing for us is to get them washed and into the freezer ready for those winter smoothies and a taste of late summer! Address n...

Looking at Rubbish a Little Differently! – Digging the Earth

https://diggingtheearth.org.uk/2016/01/20/looking-at-rubbish-a-little-differently

January 20, 2016. January 18, 2016. Grow your own fruit and veg. Looking at Rubbish a Little Differently! Shortly after taking on the allotment, just over a year ago, I have more and more been learning to look at rubbish a little differently! Just recently I have been making use, as I’m sure many do, of yogurt pots and food trays, everything suddenly seems to be a vessel for sowing seeds when you look at it with allotmenteering eyes! We also plan to make a pond from an old plastic dog bed. There’s ...

Fruit – Digging the Earth

https://diggingtheearth.org.uk/category/fruit

September 22, 2016. Grow your own fruit and veg. Making a new strawberry patch…. Now that the strawberries have well and truly “gone over” I decided to tidy up the patch by cutting back all of this years foliage, along the way I gathered up the multitude of runners that had developed. Most of them had rooted within the straw of the bed and were easy enough to put to one side. With the current patch tidy, and a mass of healthy runners, a new patch was in order! September 21, 2016. A Busy Little Plot! – Digging the Earth

https://diggingtheearth.org.uk/2016/08/03/a-busy-little-plot

August 3, 2016. August 2, 2016. Grow your own fruit and veg. A Busy Little Plot! The plot has been fantastically busy of late and we are taking home lots of fresh fruit and veg! Such a great feeling after so much work! There’s even been enough to share with friends. I thought I’d give you a little update of how things are going! Now, I have been told that I probably have too many rhubarb plants and I must admit, we haven’t gone short! To the right of the entrance, up until last week we had our early pota...

Nature for kids – Digging the Earth

https://diggingtheearth.org.uk/category/nature-for-kids

September 20, 2016. Grow your own fruit and veg. Back to the plot and we were in for a shock! We’ve had a glorious six weeks of summer holiday off including a perfect week in beautiful Crete. Here we got to sample authentic foods and relax in true Med style. Back to the plot and we were in for a shock! It’d been a couple of weeks since we visited and things have gone a little mad! In short there’s stacks to be getting on with, mainly weeding and tidying but lots of harvesting too! August 3, 2016. The her...

Despite it being the height of summer this weather hasn’t been helping the garden through what should be its period of peak productivity. Temperatures are lower than they should be and there’s little sunlight around at present. But in the face of pouring rain for much of today it was important to get out and harvest various things which had ripened. Gooseberries ripe for picking. A good gooseberry harvest from a humble (cheap! Just a few yards away the blueberry bush is in full production. Between the be...

Harvest Time | www.grow-veg.uk

https://grow-veg.uk/2015/06/27/harvest-time

For me, this is one of the best times of the vegetable growing year. Root crops have been rapidly swelling and there is so much lovely food to pick and enjoy. First out of the ground today was this trio of beetroots: one each of Detroit White, Golden and Chioggia. Colourful trio of beetroots. They ended up in a roasting bag with some swede, also picked today. Alongside are the first mangetout of the year. Beets ready for roasting, with mangetout alongside. Beetroot leaves – a spinach substitute. The thre...

I have been occupied the last few days with a book, or three in fact. It was really well written and I enjoyed it a lot. It’s essentially a love st...

Life, the universe and crafty goodness. Well I don’t know about you but I am pooped! I suddenly got hit by the motivation bug on Saturday and all this walking and stuff after 4 months of not much has me absolutely cream crackered! I even washed up today…milestone! And I managed to master the ripple stitch today too…so a day of firsts in some ways! Yup, I thought so😛. After this I think I will have a go at some crochet flowers and if they are good enough I might send them to Yarndale. I don’t norma...

Life, the universe and crafty goodness. Ripple Crochet Blankie Done! Today there is good and bad news. I finished the Ripple Crochet Blankie….yaaaay! It is the first time I have tried the ripple stitch which is a lot quicker to do than I expected. It has taken about 4 days, but I’ve been ill for 2 of them so I didn’t even touch it. I basically just used up 3 colours of yarn which had been sitting in my stash for awhile, but I think the pink looks a little strange around the edge though! 8212;—&#821...

I just read somewhere out there that the ever elusive Leviathan are to return with a new album in what remains of 2011. I cannot wait and you have been warned.
