Early navigable panoramic photographs. QuickTime VR was recently available from Apple Computer. QuickTime VR Authoring Studio was the software to stitch frames and set up multi-nodal virtual tours. One of the first navigable panoramic photographs. This proved to me the value of this technology as a way to view a remote location. Shot on Fugi negative film in a 35mm camera mounted on the first Kaidan panoramic head. Electronic flash was bounced off the ceiling for each frame. Theme by: Theme Horse.

1998 – Digital Panoramas

Panoramas were shot with film because digital cameras were not commonly available. The film scanning was done with the Kodak PCD system. Digital images were stitched with the QuickTime VR Authoring Studio. This was the best way to make navigable panoramas in 1998. Hand held camera with Fuji negative film. Shot at Chichen Itza, Yucatán, Mexico which was a pre-columbian Mayan city. Negative film was better to use for panoramic photos because it had more dynamic range than transparency film.
2002 – Digital Panoramas

This year saw alot of action showing panoramic prints in galleries. Here are some computer based images also made in 2002. After many days of watching the sky for a great sunset, it happened. All panoramas on this page were shot with the Panoscan System. There was a lot of experimentation with lighting of interiors with continuous artificial light. Apple’s QuickTime browser plug-in was used on websites that showed these panoramas. Flash software was just becoming available. A large, bright bathroom. There was a skylight in the ceiling providing strong fill light. Photographer in the shot. Bedroom at a ski lodge shot with a mixture of incandescent, continuous artificial, and natural light.
