Is both as ugly and as beautiful as the guidebooks and the travellers grapevine suggest. Ugly because it seems to be a town built in a style merely to succeed in its two functions, without a thought for aesthetics. And its two functions? But it's also beautiful. Just 100 metres from the dusty, treeless backpackerland. And I turned our back on the town, rented a moto.

Following the backpacker trail is definitely the cheapest and easiest way to see the scenery, particularly in and around HCMC. Jumpinpin, QLD I spent three days on a catamaran sailboat recently, cruising the upper reaches of the Broadwater north of Surfers Paradise. We anchored at Jumpinpin, the inlet between North and South Stradbroke Island, and enjoyed a couple of very nice Queensland spring days swimming off the back of the boat, motoring around in the dinghy and eating great food. The need for Tweed. An open wheeler speeds through the cutting.
