tips & tales from my kitchen garden
Life before DMV
http://digmyveg.com/life-before-dmv
Tips and tales from my kitchen garden. I’m not completely new to gardening. I’d started with a double allotment in Bath. I built it up from nothing and I loved it. Life changed, and we moved to Glastonbury. There I nurtured a small town-garden attached to a Georgian house. I built it up from nothing and I loved it. Life changed again, we separated and we moved on. I really didn’t miss gardening. He’d buy me a surprise garden. A Small Constant Garden. Not knowing much about gardening himself, he was struc...
6 childish reasons to use Raised Beds
http://digmyveg.com/2015/10/my-6-very-childish-reasons-for-raised-bed-gardening
Tips and tales from my kitchen garden. 6 childish reasons to use Raised Beds. Building in “raised beds” is a fantastic way to grow fruit and veg in a small garden. I’ve outlined. I built the kitchen garden with raised beds in my earliest posts. But when I first started this one, I had several people ask. I spent so much time, and a certain investment of money (well, overdraft, actually), to carefully plan out and build a raised bed system when I could have just stuck the plants straight into some dug soil.

Tips and tales from my kitchen garden. 3 gifts for budding kitchen gardeners. The Kew Gardens Children’s Cookbook: Plant, Cook, Eat! If your small child is even vaguely interested in helping you in the garden, or on the allotment, then I’d urge you to get him/her this great book from Kew Gardens. Which is a ‘grown-up’ book but with lots of trendy graphics and infectious childlike enthusiasm. Rocket Gardens Children’s Garden – plug plant collection ( 34.95). Tips and tales from my kitchen garden. Snazzy lunch at the Savoy & the 2016 GMG Awards. On the 24th November I was chuffed to bits to be attending the Garden Media Guild’s Awards. As a Finalist in their Blog of the Year. I’m sure was not quite so tight. I’d just have to breath in. I arrived at the Savoy. Hotel with a little trepidation. I have been to the Savoy before, once for a job interview and another time for a business meeting. So why the nerves? I looked around the room… there was Joe Swift. 8230;...

Mark's Veg Plot: Climbing Beans - progress, and a surprise
http://marksvegplot.blogspot.com/2015/08/climbing-beans-progress-and-surprise.html
Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Climbing Beans - progress, and a surprise. What a shame there's presently only that one! I'm not saying that my Runner Beans are no good; only that they are not yet up to the standard I expect. They are just OK. Look at these - small; not straight; covered in blackfly, and too few. There seem to be plenty more little pods forming, so maybe things will improve later. This cluster looks promising, with almost every flower setting a pod. I have four plants of this variety, so hopef...
Planning A Perennial Vegetable Garden - Urban Turnip
http://www.urbanturnip.org/2015/07/perennial-vegetable-garden
Planning A Perennial Vegetable Garden. I’m about halfway through Martin Crawford’s excellent book. How to Grow Perennial Vegetables. It’s an engaging read that challenges the traditional “annual” planting approach as one that’s both overly labour intensive and detrimental to the environment. Perennial rocket (diplotaxis tenuifolia) can be harvested at any time and prefers poor soils. Pots work equally well too. A potted perennial garden could be perfect for those city-dwellers with limited time. ...Autum...
