Looking at art, fashion and the future. FRIEZE (stop, look, listen, think). Last week was Frieze New York Art Fair on Randalls Island. I worked in VIP services, saw epic amounts of art, went to Liz Glynn’s secret speakeasy. Once through the wrong door and twice through the right door, witnessed two art catastrophes I really hope it worked out ok for the people involved, noted that sculptural works on the wall are trending, watched Paul McCarthy’s GIANT. Both produce work that is avant-garde, technological, sculptural and architectural re-interpreting textile and form in playful and innovative ways whilst utilising technology. Looking at art, fashion and the future. I went to a ‘3D printing and fashion’ workshop at Eyebeam. Recently, a lot of people in the room already had a 3D printer at home or were already working with them professionally. In fact, the first 3D printer was made in 1989 which means that I’m 24 years behind the 8 ball on this one but probably just in time to afford such delights. There are massive possibilities for prototyping and creating objects. Industrial manufacturers such as Shapeways. June 22, 2013.
