me and my allotment . com: April 2013

Me and my allotment . com. Monday, 1 April 2013. Aslan returns to Narnia. There has been an apparition. It was in the sky, circular in shape and yellow in hue. To view it directly caused pain, but it bestowed such a gentle warmth and caused such a feeling of wellbeing in all who saw it that it was considered something not to be feared. Indeed, some even thought they might have seen it long ago. Seedlings craned to see it. The school holidays started and the allotmenteer, fired up by the apparition….

me and my allotment . com: Getting diggy with it
http://www.meandmyallotment.com/2013/03/getting-diggy-with-it.html
Me and my allotment . com. Sunday, 3 March 2013. Getting diggy with it. Or trying to. Had a bad back since a sledging injury in February. Boo to no gardening since then, but I can highly recommend diclofenac! It took me 1½ hours to dig out about 1½m² of the bed booked for Older’s sweetcorn. Even I can do the maths for that and am finding the rate of progress somewhat worrying. I agree that if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. There be mangroves growing in that there bed! His compost’s als...

Me and my allotment . com. Sunday, 17 February 2013. Oh dear, I really don’t want to keep criticising Mr. Hings keep happening that drive me to it! As I’ve previously mention ed. He left a l. Ot of stuff on my side of the allotment, mainly rubbish, but some of it’s useable, eg. two full compost bins. I emptied one of them. Early o n and the empty bin somehow found its way back to his half of the allotment, so I'm assuming he reclaimed it. I don't believe it! In the voice of Victor Meldrew. Rom some frien...

me and my allotment . com: War is declared (on the hops)

Me and my allotment . com. Monday, 31 December 2012. War is declared (on the hops). A weapon of mass destruction, suitable for slashing your way through the jungle, has been purchased and, with the help of Himself, the hop-infested weed suppressant is no more - ha! He had to pull it back (no easy task), whilst I hacked at the roots. It weighs a ton. Victory is sweet (and quite a relief – first major obstacle overcome). Am actually v chuffed with the machete, if that’s what you'd call it.

me and my allotment . com: November 2012
http://www.meandmyallotment.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Me and my allotment . com. Friday, 30 November 2012. Inspection 2 (with cardboard). There’s a patch at the top that’s much worse than the rest of the allotment. It’s covered with nettles and other weeds. I found some cardboard in the garage and put it down on top of the nettles, not as my first stab at lasagne gardening, but simply for easier access. Couldn’t lasagne garden there anyway – there’s a whole load of rubble and rubbish to be moved first. Somewhat dispirited by the size of the task, but….

me and my allotment . com: Weight lifting
http://www.meandmyallotment.com/2013/01/weight-lifting.html
Me and my allotment . com. Sunday, 6 January 2013. I have coined a new phrase: "rescue rhubarb". For under that monster mound of hop roots, weeds and weed suppressant, was a rhubarb crown desperate to emerge. Hurrah – and now there are three! The Hop Monster is now in the bin. Shame it couldn’t be composted, but that would have required de-weeding the weed suppressant, which would have taken way too long and I don’t think the council would appreciate hop-infested sheeting in the brown bin. Between the tw...

http://www.meandmyallotment.com/2013/01/28-november-2012-its-for-my-allotment.html
Me and my allotment . com. Wednesday, 28 November 2012. It's for my allotment". 8220;It’s for my allotment” – the words I’ve been waiting to be able to say for three years! Well, my half allotment. It’s rather a mess, as I’m told is usually the case when you eventually get one. Allotments only become available here because people die (and haven’t passed it on to a family member) or they stop cultivating them. It might have been a bit spooky to get this because someone popped their clogs. But I still can&...
