disability studies: Rory O'Shea was here

http://disabilitystudiesatlu.blogspot.com/2007/11/rory-oshea-was-here_11.html

Sunday, November 11, 2007. Rory O'Shea was here. Posted by Tracy A. What Michael learned from Rory was that he did not have to go back to the institution when Rory died for he could live on his own with his aide, and he had the knowledge as an educated person to do so. This movie moved me in it was very real and the actors who were not disabled must have went to great lengths in understanding what the disability was like for the person who was disabled. The Relationship between Disabled People and Health and Welfare Professionals, Chapter 32 (pp 734-753) in Handbook of Disability Studies (Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage). Although they may have more control over their lives here, overall, they still do n...The r...

teaching dialogue: October 2007

http://teachingdialogue.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 22, 2007. Following the classes I received many compliments from students who enjoyed the classes and the structure very much. I was told that the free writing was something that most had never experienced - additionally they commented that I knew the material very well and answered their questions competently and respectfully while maintaining a good level of discussion at all times. Below is simply a copy of my lecture guide notes and embedded free writing questions. Independence as res...

teaching dialogue: The Back Burner...

http://teachingdialogue.blogspot.com/2007/10/back-burner.html

Sunday, October 21, 2007. Well it's been over a year since I began working on the Teaching practicum here at Lakehead University. My reference to the back-burner comes from the fact that no matter what, projects always seem to take on a life of their own. In this case the teaching practicum has laid dormant for some time. The back burner has kept the project tepid and in wait for its chance to shine. I welcome the return. The List of topics to be covered by the teaching program include the following list:.

Friday, 12 October 2007. Holding out: a way out of facebook? The words below are clips from a longer article that attempts to analyze online social/antisocial networks like facebook and myspace in the context of cultural capital. I for one, have held out of facebook, but feel the increasing pressure to join. I found this article while skulking around like a gangly gollum looking for a way out,. the virtual sauna: silence | music

http://virtualsauna.blogspot.com/2007/11/silence-music.html

Monday, 5 November 2007. 8220;Silence is our real nature. What we are fundamentally is only silence. Silence is free from beginning and end. It was before the beginning of all things. It is causeless. Its greatness lies in the fact that it simple is. In silence all objects have their home ground. It is the light that gives objects their shape and form. All movement, all activity is harmonized by silence. To hear silence, and sound - please visit - http:/ www.myspace.com/frommonumenttomasses.

the virtual sauna: Mus'ak

http://virtualsauna.blogspot.com/2007/09/musak.html

Friday, 28 September 2007. It's not everyday that a film arrests your very being by uplifting your heart from the quiet mundane plodding of everyday life. It is only within the fissures of unexpected occurrences, those entrances that we keep a constant watch over, but seldom have the capacity to block out entirely, that the contagions of true art infest our very being and ignite a symbiosis of exultant passion. As I watched Once in awe and elation I was immediately reminded of the film ' Latcho Drom.'.

http://virtualsauna.blogspot.com/2007/08/last-day-of-august.html

Friday, 31 August 2007. The Last Day of August. So here I sit in at my desk, typing these words on a keyboard looking at a screen that has met my stare for the past 3 months. My goal at the outset was to complete a good draft copy of my thesis by today. I must admit that at present I think that I am about 3 or 4 days off the mark. The goal was not too enormous and should I have been more capable of focusing steadily in the first month I probably would have been done a few weeks ago. The Last Day of August.

Sunday, 9 September 2007. Jean-Paul De Roover - Fellow grad student and musical genius. Completely Inspired me. A one man musical revolution if I do say so myself. His syncopated rhythms set to complex time signatures and dance happy vocal arrangements made his Thursday set sing with the grace and ease of dolphins at sea. Mark Berube: Singer Songwriter from Vancouver who played defsup last friday night. I got to the defsup. I have in my hands, well next to me. A printed copy of my Thesis.
