Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Sunday, November 2, 2008. Youre not Saving, Youre Cost Avoiding. There's a big difference between "saving" and "cost avoiding." It's pretty thrifty to keep this in mind if you're out shopping. After grocery shopping, often times on the receipt it'll say ". Xx amount of money today. Know the difference. Saving is powerful. Cost avoiding is just shuffling funds. Aaah Those Deals on Grocery Endcap Displays. Anyway, thought...

Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Friday, October 31, 2008. Halloween Ghosts From Garbage Bags. Saw this in a neighbor's yard and thought it was clever. Take several white kitchen trash bags, fill 1/4 way with crumpled newspaper or some paper grocery bags. Tie off with a ribbon, thus making a "head.". Draw a face on with a permanent marker. Run a string through the top of the ghost's head and tie to whatever you like! Keep an eye out for stock after big...

http://theplantkiller.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 7, 2010. More Summer Tomato Crop. I gathered a bunch of our smaller tomatoes the other day for a summer pasta dish. The Scatalone plant was the last one I put in this year. I picked up the start from the farmer's market and it took me ages to find this variety. Here's a shot of a variety of our smaller tomatoes - early ssubukis aliana, isis candy, scatalone, black cherry. Thursday, August 5, 2010. Summer Bounty Comes Rolling In. Today I'm making a roast pork tenderloin in fig sauce for d...

Thrifty, Not Cheap: No More Leaky Liquid Laundry Detergent
http://bethriftynotcheap.blogspot.com/2010/04/no-more-leaky-liquid-laundry-detergent.html
Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Sunday, April 18, 2010. No More Leaky Liquid Laundry Detergent. Ever notice that after you've poured your liquid laundry detergent and recapped the bottle, sometimes the detergent leaks out from what's leftover in the cap? It's scary - this stuff, undiluted by the wash water, can literally peel paint off of shelves if it sits around. Labels: Around the House. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). More, from Me.

So, the jury's still out on this Square Foot Gardening thing. or really, just this "gardening" thing. Since I last posted about SFG, we built a little 4x4 SFG according to the book. Partially on the timing of the season (a little late to plant, missed spinach season, etc) and also in part an experiment to see what would do best in our little homestead project. I gues...

Thrifty, Not Cheap. A compendium of ways to live in a more fiscally efficient manner. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Broke Ass Gourmet - Hearty Quinoa Salad = Yum! I recently discovered "Broke Ass Gourmet" and have road tested a few of the recipes. So far, I'm impressed! They're inexpensive, simple and very tasty. They also require very little time. I tried the Hearty Quinoa Salad. Such a fun mix to flavors! I don't eat pork, and it's nearly impossible to find a sausage that doesn't use pork casing, so I substit...

Friday, May 7, 2010. The Miracle Fruit that is the Loquat. In case you don't know what a loquat is.well. you haven't lived. I just discovered them last year. They're AMAZING. They are a plum sized orange / yellow fruit that grows on trees. Loquats have large seeds inside - the number varies - I've seen one and up to three. They are like apricot seeds or very large apple seeds, but the main point is, like apricot seeds. DON'T EAT them - they're poisonous. Loquat Season is Here! Monday, May 3, 2010. Someho...

The Plant Killer: June 2012
http://theplantkiller.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 9, 2012. Last Tomato Planted Plus Sunflowers. After the hail the other night, I will be surprised if anything makes it. The Lemon boy has been set out late, but may end up being our only hope. Meanwhile, we planted sunflower seeds this morning as well. The as sunset sunflowers, I think. We have waited to do final planting because a fence is being built around the garden. Next year we will get a more normal start a everything will be in place (irrigation, soil, fence, mulch). I suppose ther...
