Saturday, February 28, 2015. Kid Convos: February 2015. This is more for me, so that I can remember some of the silly things the kids say. I apologize to anyone who comes across this if the dialogue is a little bit TMI for you. George: Mommy, I need diaper. Me: What do you need a diaper for? Do you need to make stinky? George: Nooooooo. No stinky. Me: Are you going to go and take a nap? George: Nooooooo. No nap. Me: Then no diaper. You need to wear big boy underwear. Me: What do you need a diaper for?

Sparrows at Home: Restaurant Review: The Hop - Ice Cream Café in Asheville, NC
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/2015/08/restaurant-review-hop-ice-cream-cafe-in.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Restaurant Review: The Hop - Ice Cream Café in Asheville, NC. It is always a treat when we make a trip to Asheville, North Carolina. It is about a 5.5 hour drive from where we live, so it is not a trip we are able to make often. Not only is the Asheville area breathtakingly beautiful, they also have a huge vegetarian/vegan population. What does this mean for me? More places to eat out at! After a long day playing tourist, we stopped by The Hop - Ice Cream Café. Vegan Strawberry ...

Sparrows at Home: December 2014
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 7, 2014. Week in Review: Math and Reading, Bad Burn, He's Rolling! Bridget has been building big numbers with the manipulatives. She gets a bit frustrated sometimes (especially with the hundreds), but I am happy about it. A little frustration is a good thing. It tells me she's learning something new, getting out of her comfort zone, and really needing to use her thinking skills. She's doing very well! And for the last bit of news. Liam is now a roller! Saturday, May 23, 2015. Recipe: Chef Chloe's Coconut Cake. Sweet It is unlike the coconut cakes I grew up eating in Hawaii (those are very light and refreshing). This cake is a bit more heavy, but it does provide a lot of coconut flavor. If it does not satisfy your sweet tooth I don't know what will! For those who are seeking a gluten-free cake, I've included the ingredient alternatives in the recipe below. I have not tried the gluten-free version, as I do not have an issue with gluten in my diet. Fill e...

Sparrows at Home: Week in Review 2015: #30 (Our Last Week of Summer)
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/2015/08/week-in-review-2015-30-our-last-week-of.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. Week in Review 2015: #30 (Our Last Week of Summer). Our last week before school begins. Wow. Summer flew by fast! While most moms might be getting their kids on a schedule (go to bed early, wake up early) to prepare for the school year, I did the opposite. I let the kids stay in their pajamas all day if they desired, we watched movies late into the night (which is about 9 or 10 o'clock for them), and played all day. Okay,. Bridget will be starting a formal first grade curriculum.

Sparrows at Home: Recipes
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/p/recipes.html
Here are some of my family's favorite recipes from various cookbooks and websites that I have tried (credit is given within the individual posts). A few of the recipes are my own creation. Most of the recipes I post are vegan. This means they include no meat, no eggs, no dairy, or any other animal products. Most (if not all) of the recipes are also kid-friendly. I hate making separate meals for the adults and the kids, so I try to make meals that we all love. It saves me a lot of time! Straw and Hay Pasta.

Friday, March 20, 2015. Week in Review: First Lessons. The week started off great, because it was Pi day. We ate pie (who didn't? Chocolate mousse pie with coconut whipped cream. (You can see the picture below in the food section. Recipe to follow later.). This little guy here, not to be left out of the fun, started crawling this week! We began BOB Books Set 2. We are still reading Alice in Wonderland. With biscuits and collards. We're all excited that Spring has arrived. I am so tired of the cold we...

Sparrows at Home: Week in Review 2015: #31 (Back to School!)
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/2015/08/week-in-review-2015-31-back-to-school.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. Week in Review 2015: #31 (Back to School! We had a birthday to celebrate this week! It was our first week back to school! Can I just say how much I love not needing to get the kids ready in a hurry to take them to school each morning? George has a good time building puzzles and playing with whatever math manipulatives Bridget isn't using. He's not using those for counting purposes and instead builds towers and bridges. Whatever keeps him busy! This is also a new subject this yea...

Sparrows at Home: Restaurant Reviews
http://www.sparrowsathome.com/p/restaurant-reviews.html
The hardest part about a vegan diet has got to be the lack of places to eat out. Here in the South, it is exceptionally difficult, as most people do not even know what "vegan" means. As I go about my day-to-day adventures with my family of five, I'll post my vegan (and kid-friendly) finds at various restaurants along the way. Thanks for stopping by! Click on the name of the restaurant for my review. If there is no link, I have not yet completed my review but please check back soon! The Hop Ice Cream Café.

Sparrows at Home: April 2015

Sunday, April 26, 2015. 2015 Week in Review: #14 and #15. My husband is finally at home with us more, now that tax season is over. We're trying to get back into the swing of things and getting used to having him around at dinner time again. The kids both loved the tiller at the back of the ships (especially George). Most of those photos were of the backs of their heads, but I did manage to get this one of Bridget giving me a real, unforced smile. I am glad she was having a good time! No food pictures thi...
