Deadly Vanilla and Sunshine. A chronological record of my culinary feats and failures as well as how to avoid the latter and achieve the former. Sunday, January 4, 2015. Golden Saffron Oven Pancakes. Salted saffron can be made in a hurry if you have a mortar and pestle. Combine coarse salt with a good pinch of red saffron threads. Let the threads sit out in the open for at least 20 minutes. Then use the mortar and pestle to grind them together until you get a grainy orange mixture. 1/2 cup whole milk.
