Jimbo's English Teaching in Japan Blog

I started this blog in 2005 but stopped for a number of years. Getting the occasional comment motivated me to write again. I try to blog about English teaching in Japan with an emphasis on teacher education. I am not the best writer in the world but I hope the content here might be useful to people who are interested in EFL in Japan. I usually have strong opinions about the issues I write about but because this blog is not anonymous, I try to avoid making statements that could cause a stir.

Jimbo's English Teaching in Japan Blog: August 2013

http://discussenglish.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Jimbo's English Teaching in Japan Blog. Friday, August 02, 2013. Researching what constitutes real and meaningful learning in the Japanese EFL Classroom. Whether students enjoyed doing the task and found it useful. The extent to which the task results in the type of learner behavior that the teacher had in mind when selecting or designing the task. Whether the task contributes to the students' acquisition of the L2. For me, number two seems to be the most worthy to investigate. Why? I think number 2 is.

Welcome to hope's blog. Monday, November 14, 2005. Merits and Demerits for cooperation. I want to answer yus&bonsai's questions! But they are my ideas. First, I think they can have a long-range view for education of English. It's the present condition that each kind of schools' aims are different. So they are not easy to cooperate with other kind of schools now. But, I think it is important to recognize eacn other's aims. So it is good for teachers and to cooperate. Tuesday, November 08, 2005. https://leigh83.wordpress.com/2007/09

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Dr Crovitz’s Article. September 27, 2007. I found Dr. Crovitz’s article Scrutinizing the Cybersell: Teen-Targeted Web Sites as Texts to give a great description of what our class is all about. All of the exercises we have done in familiarizing we’ve done with the read/write web will help us to understand what our youth is up against, in terms of advertising, in the sensory stimulating world of the web. Hopefully the early grade teachers. At least we couldn’t warn us.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Response to Neil Postman’s “The End of Education” Ch. 1 & 2. August 30, 2007. In reading the first couple of chapters of Neil Postman’s The End of Education , I found I found plenty of the material to be agreeable enough. I’m interested to hear his views on technology and education in chapter three. He is right in his statement that America, collectively, has no myth, no story that links us to a higher power. How can we teach the dangers of technology and consumerism, i...

Pumkin Online English: A Very Big Number.

http://blog.pumkin.com/2011/02/very-big-number.html

Wednesday, February 16, 2011. A Very Big Number. About one year ago we made the decision to make a youtube channel. We added lots of our video content to give to the children, and the adults. We are now at the amazing point where we have had 1 million views of our videos. OK granted it is no Justin Bieber but for us it is a big deal. One million hits. So who and why I ask myself. People from all over the world have been to our channel. I think it's best for our viewers to explain. We never imagined we wo...

http://blog.pumkin.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 24, 2010. I just found this great post on Classroom Book of the Week. Http:/ katenarita.blogspot.com/2010/10/perfect-pumpkin-pie.html. As it is fast approaching Halloween, Pumkins are everywhere. This is a great review about a book called, 'The Perfect Pumpkin (sic) Pie'. There is a great rhyme in there too. FIVE LITTLE PUMPKINS SITTING ON A GATE. Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate. The first one said, “Oh my! It’s getting late.”. WOOOOO went the wind, and out went the lights.

Jimbo's English Teaching in Japan Blog

Jimbo's English Teaching in Japan Blog. Sunday, January 03, 2016. Taking a walk in Yangon on October 18, 2015. I meant to write this in my blog a long time ago. First, it took hours for me to figure out how to trace my path on google maps. After that, I weas so burned out that I did not think about this for a couple of months! So, let me talk about my walk. I started near Boyoge Market at the Point A at the bottom of the map and walked to Shwedagon Pagoda. Or the reclining Buddha. However, I realized...

discusser in a sentence | simple examples

In A Sentence .org. The best little site that helps you understand word usage with examples. Discusser in a sentence. Im not much of a discusser, really - talker yes, discusser no - so my views will no doubt be largely positive and supportive. Because I see myself as more of a book discusser than a book reviewer; which means, sometimes discussing the ending or resolution of a book - hence, a spoiler. Use adder in a sentence. Use atmospherics in a sentence. Use caprifoliaceous in a sentence. Because I see...
