Dishing up Nirvana

Monday, May 21, 2012. It's been a while since my last blog post. Put it down to work, travels or other interests, my love for food and cooking has never been lost. Feels great to be sharing my creations and recipes again! This banana bread recipe is one you really should try! This recipe yields a beautiful, soft, moist bread that's very tasty and is sure not to last very long in any eager household. I've added walnuts to my bread beacuse I love the texture of crispy nuts in the soft bread. Walnut...Prehe...

Dishing up Nirvana: July 2010

http://dishingupnirvana.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 23, 2010. Passionfruit and lemon syrup cake. If only you could grab a piece and taste! You would know then just how good this moist, flavourful cake really tastes. I fear that my words alone do not do it justice. Youll just have to trust me then and take my word for it. This cake rocks! One piece will never be enough. And Im not just saying that. Convinced yet? This recipe is adapted from The Australian Womens Weekly magazine. The cake is light, moist and fantastic! Friday, July 23, 2010.

Dishing up Nirvana: September 2010

http://dishingupnirvana.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 30, 2010. Its not often that I buy a $6 loaf of bread. Only when desperate and no other options are available. Now if that loaf of bread is only half eaten and stale two days later, it certainly will get used! I know of no tastier way of using stale bread than in a delicious bread pudding. In this pudding Ive used dessicated coconut, almonds and dried mixed fruit (my mum used to use dried cut mixed peel). Eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla essence are the other basic ingredients. She uses ...

Dishing up Nirvana: August 2010

http://dishingupnirvana.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Bhajias are a staple at any Indian tea party in South Africa. These light and fluffy savoury bites are also known as pakoras, bhajis or chilli bites.  Now although I try to eat healthily and avoid deep fried foods, an occasional bhajia cannot be resisted! The most essential ingredient is besan flour, also known as chana, gram or chickpea flour. It can be found in Indian grocery stores and I even found it in my local, inner Sydney Coles supermarket in the gluten-free section.

Dishing up Nirvana: Greek style lamb baked with pasta (Giouvetsi / Γιουβέτσι)

http://dishingupnirvana.blogspot.com/2010/09/greek-style-lamb-baked-with-pasta.html

Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Greek style lamb baked with pasta (Giouvetsi / Γιουβέτσι)  . This particular dish really impressed me the first time I had the pleasure of eating it. My mother-in-law always makes this dish for me whenever I visit Greece. It's a simple dish to prepare with basic ingredients, but the flavours are truly awesome! This dish is complemented really well by the traditional Greek sides of Kalamata olives, feta cheese and crusty bread. 1 shoulder of lamb, cut into 5 to 6 large pieces.

Dishing up Nirvana: Rainbow cookies with M&M's or Smarties

http://dishingupnirvana.blogspot.com/2010/07/rainbow-cookies-with-m-or-smarties.html

Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Rainbow cookies with M&M's or Smarties. Everybody has a little childishness in them still. The kind of feeling that you get when you get handed a colourful rainbow cookie with little rounds of coated chocolate dotted on its surface. When the biggest dilemna you face is whether to capture a chocolate piece in your mouth with every bite or to save the choc pieces as little treats in-between bites of the cookie (like I do)! 125g softened unsalted butter. 125ml soft brown sugar. Bake ...

One spoon at a time. My Return and a Recipe to Boot (Napa Chicken Salad). March 5, 2014. So I have been MIA from blog-land for almost 2 years…yikes! Where I sell lots of fun vintage jewelry, other items, and new creations made out of vintage goods. The shop is closed right now because of snippet #2, but I plan to re-open soon. Calorie inform...

Just another WordPress.com site. Ode to Vitamin D. January 19, 2011. There’s been a lot of back and forth controversy about Vitamin D lately, so I thought I’d include some interesting info and articles for this post. See below for more extensive reading on the subject, but here’s a quick overview. Foods that contain vitamin D include milk, egg yolks, sardines, salmon, cod liver oil, and mackeral. The best way to test for Vitamin D deficiency and to determine the correct supplement dosage is through a blo...
