Opinions, rants, and such…. 2012: The Year in Reading. January 29, 2013. Once more into the breach! Every year, I post a list of all the books I’ve read the previous year. Although these posts receive little fanfare or repeat traffic, I enjoy doing them for myself. Those interested can also read 2011. This was definitely the year of Robert E. Howard, dominating my reading with 19 books total. I went on a serious fantasy/sci-fi/pulp binge, and it shows in the numbers. A very dark book, with a tragic endin...

Last Year’s Reading | Ramblebramble's Weblog
https://ramblebramble.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/last-years-reading
Opinions, rants, and such…. Last Year’s Reading. July 11, 2010. Last year, I made it through 117 books, which was an immense amount of reading. I rarely have that much stamina. Even so, looking through the list, I found that almost one quarter of the books were photography books, so 117 is slightly illusory, depending on your definition of reading. As with my previous post, I’ve cut the books down into categories. These are arbitrary, as most categories are. Ansel Adams, The Portfolios of Ansel Adams.

Opinions, rants, and such…. I have many interests, and I’ve begun exploring using services like lulu. And others to offer them for sale. I try to keep my prices as low as possible for the work that I do. I’m also trying to make sure that I’m not competing against my ‘free’ services like my flickr photostream. I hope you find something of value to you below. Drop me a line and tell me what I’m doing right and wrong. I have one photography book for sale at blurb.com. I’m currently using Imagekind to ...

Naming Code | Ramblebramble's Weblog
https://ramblebramble.wordpress.com/2014/01/28/naming-code
Opinions, rants, and such…. January 28, 2014. There are a bunch of programming books that have dramatically effected how I write, organize, and maintain code, whether it’s an HTML template, a Javascript file, XML, Freemarker, PHP…anything I’ve been asked to use or fiddled with on my own. But you didn’t come here to read my LinkedIn mission statement. Let’s get back to it. Both the Pragmatic Programmer. Which is, finally, what I want to discuss. VB style, I can tell you that not standardizing on something...

A book of lists | Ramblebramble's Weblog
https://ramblebramble.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/a-book-of-lists
Opinions, rants, and such…. A book of lists. April 9, 2015. About 5 years ago, I started to collect and sift through a bunch of literary awards, focusing on science fiction, fantasy, and horror. It slowly grew to incorporate children’s lit, mystery, and even some mainstream literary awards. I’ve stalled out about a dozen times in the last 5 years, going strong for a week, then leaving it for months. So, now you can get it on Github. A great open-source app for epub authoring. I’d love to hear from ...

Although these posts receive little fanfare or repeat traffic, I enjoy doing them for myself. Those interested can also read 2012. One of the great things about Goodreads is the ability to sort books into virtual shelves. This allows me to list books that are of professional interest on my LinkedIn account. Holiday Gift Guide 2014 | Ramblebramble's Weblog
https://ramblebramble.wordpress.com/2014/12/15/holiday-gift-guide-2014
Opinions, rants, and such…. Holiday Gift Guide 2014. December 15, 2014. I can’t say this is a gift guide for everyone, but every year I offer up a little list of things I think are cool. Most are books. I can’t lay claim to all of these being recent, but they are to my taste. Alfred Stieglitz: Camera Work. This brings together highlights from the entire run of Stieglitz’s legendary magazine Camera Work, one of the first North American periodicals to feature photography in any way. Was Superman A Spy?

Opinions, rants, and such…. 2010: The Year in Reading. December 7, 2010. This year, I made it 131. Of course, the rest of my life isn’t so grand right now. But let’s shelve that. Shelve? I’ve typically broken out books into categories. This year, I also want to break things out into series, as well. Let’s get into the lists, shall we? A Very Short Introduction. Along with 3 more (.
