Miss B: September 2010
http://missbuccilla.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 22, 2010. The view from the back of the room. The view from my desk toward the right side of the room. I'm sorry, Teacher Corps, if it is not recommended to show your cards like that. I'm sure I should have given him a consequence. But I. Have to stop and enjoy myself (or my students) at least once daily. So has this been easier or harder than I thought? Easier. So far. Is the teacher fair? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, September 19, 2011. Portfolios: The Best and the Worst. I'm ashamed to say that today was the first time I looked at any of the portfolios from last year's class. There were some that I loved and some that clearly seemed thrown together at the last minute. Overall the ones that I liked the best were the ones that told a story. Below I've listed a set of guidelines that I think applies to what I viewed as the best portfolios. 3 Have a theme? Bill Clinton Comes to the Grove. These pictures were tak...

Unabashed Miss B: February 2012
http://unabashedmissb.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 22, 2012. I prodded with accusing eyes, acknowledging their answers with little more than an indifferent nod. I asked very few questions about C's Fashion Week internship and even fewer about the others' impending job changes. Walking out I felt ashamed, but I said nothing, simply wanting to get home and go to sleep. That's why the guilt formed so quickly. I didn't deserve a card. I didn't deserve anything but a swift kick. Monday, February 13, 2012. Go ahead, honey! I was entering my...

Unabashed Miss B: December 2010
http://unabashedmissb.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Back in June, I remember thinking that the second years were too disengaged. I even got a little angry at what seemed like an unwillingness to help us. Don't they remember what it was like for them last year? They act like they're so tired. please! So how has my perspective changed? A Day in the Life. I turn in for the night and set my alarm for 5:30am intending to hit "snooze" at least six times at 5 minute increments the next morning. My alarm goes off the final time. At...

Miss B: October 2010
http://missbuccilla.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. How can the good times just end? Monday, October 18, 2010. It was suggested that journaling is an excellent way for students to assess their own strengths and needs. Out of the entire fourth chapter of Content Literacy for Today's Adolescents. I found this suggestion to be the most applicable for a writing course. By the end of the quarter, my kids knew their terms. Perhaps one of the best and most common ways to assess literacy is informally in a casual, relaxed environment&#...

Monday, October 31, 2011. No Use in Putting On a Mask. My favorite bookstore, Square Books. Over the weekend I finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. My friend dropped me off at the door because there was no parking to be found and, as is consistent with most things I do, I was in and out of Square Books in a matter of seconds. I knew exactly where I needed to go and I'm a regular at the store so I read off my frequent reader number and was back out the door in no time. Yeah Is it bad that I noticed?

Unabashed Miss B: Impassioned
http://unabashedmissb.blogspot.com/2012/02/impassioned.html
Friday, February 3, 2012. Today was an awesome day. The kids were damn near perfect. I was able to joke around and keep things light while they worked (and boy were they really working! On their projects. I called students up one-by-one to conference and check their progress. At some point during first period I began fist bumping each child as they walked away, saying, "BOOM! If they had all their materials. This obviously sparked some head-shaking and laughter. My feet glided across the grease-coated ti...

Unabashed Miss B: No Place Like Home
http://unabashedmissb.blogspot.com/2011/11/no-place-like-home.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. No Place Like Home. Clenching my coffee mug to warm my hands and wishing I could just shoot the caffeine straight into my veins, I tried to put on a happy face as I resumed my daily routine of greeting the little angels before homeroom. I passed a fellow teacher who said good morning, but my reciprocation apparently wasn't jolly enough because she immediately eyed me asking, "Break too short? Ugh Quit being a pleaser. I wonder if one day I'll be able to romanticize. Powerful...
