Ramblings of a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist. Sunday, May 10, 2009. I was doing non-cardiac cases the other day. thought I might have a straight forward day for the first time in a while. Things seemed in order looking at the patient's history for a cholecystectomy (Gall bladder removal). I said hi to the patient asked a few questions and then moved along to see my other patient that morning. Now I'm wondering why someone would want to take a nasty old gallbladder home.yuk. The attending surgeon came d...

shrinkette: Dilemma.
http://shrinkette.blogspot.com/2006/06/dilemma.html
Musings of a psychiatrist in the pacific northwest. Tuesday, June 13, 2006. I've made a rule here: "No medical advice is given on this site.". But suppose that a commenter says: "To taper a med, do A, B, and C." Does that violate my rule? Should I delete the comment? And if another commenter states that such a taper is unwise or even dangerous, what then? Is that medical advice? Why does it matter? Each day, people ask Google about "stopping meds." Each day, Google leads some of them here. That's a fasci...

shrinkette: Off meds by the holidays?
http://shrinkette.blogspot.com/2004/09/off-meds-by-holidays.html
Musings of a psychiatrist in the pacific northwest. Friday, September 24, 2004. Off meds by the holidays? In our clinic, more patients are asking about stopping antidepressants. Some are well informed about the "discontinuation syndrome" that can make stopping certain meds difficult. (See Public Service Announcement. I try to explore with them: why stop them, and why now? Is there a side effect that we should try to deal with? How will we recognize if their depression is returning? The APA guidelines say...

Musings of a psychiatrist in the pacific northwest. Saturday, May 20, 2006. Mighty Barry did not strike out. Barry Bonds ties Babe Ruth's record, but there is no joy in Mudville. Mercury News:. Maybe that's the one positive we can take from this whole sordid steroids scandal. If nothing else, Bonds is a living, breathing, tortured, tormented illustration we can point to when we tell our kids, 'You know, when you cheat, you're only cheating yourself.'. Besides the fact, Bonds has always been a real jerk.

Our Living conditions.Thank You all. Can living in an Airconditioned home 24 hrs (or 14/15 hrs) a day, "cause" or "agravate" cough, cold , fever, flu or any other respiratory disease? This isn't a confession booth. There is as much hooey as truth. My shtick. A smorgasbord of craptacular stuff. A samba of matters medical as well as personal. Friday, December 09, 2005. Prove that begging and not prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Actually the first prostitute tried begging and when that didn’t work or when lusty males leered at her and wanted sex, she gave in, haggled over the price of her body and made easy money. (She looked down upon begging thereafter). She isn̵...
