Lessons in Unexpected Places | Barefoot Whispers
https://barefootmeds.wordpress.com/2012/03/09/lessons-in-unexpected-places
Freshly-minted medical doctor, book-lover, aspirant adventurer. Who is this Barefoot Person? Books, Reading and Challenges. Lessons in Unexpected Places. March 9, 2012. You think you know it all when you hit fourth year. Okay, you know you don’t know some stuff. But HIV, TB, childhood illnesses and pregnancy? You do think you know as much as there is to know. And you think perhaps she is delusional, but when you palpate her arm, sure enough there are two longitudinal rods. March 9, 2012 at 06:33. I wonde...

Is this normal? | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/is-this-normal
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. M1 year. This year has been the pinnacle of self-involvement in my adult life. Not that I’m particularly proud of that… but it has been quite a privilege. I mean, at the end of the day, all I had to really do was. And then, if this year is any indication, I’m sure it’ll be over before I know it and all I will want is to spend my days doing research again, instead of studying. 😛. Hiatus Guilt →. Queen of Productivity | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/08/21/queen-of-productivity
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. M2 year has begun. I am already exhausted. And I am already failing at being productive. All the pep talks I gave myself this summer have already been forgotten, all of the illusions I had about never procrastinating and studying ahead and remaining focused at all costs have already been shattered. Here’s just a sampling of a typical study session with my two wonderful (and clearly useless) study buddies:. I think we got through 3 lectures in 3...

Schoolgirl | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/08/09/schoolgirl
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. There are a couple things fueling this fire. First, I’m actually just really excited to learn the things we get to learn this year. Everyone says that M2 year is much more interesting than M1 year, and I loved M1 year so I can’t wait to get into the even better stuff. Finally time for some pathology! I can’t wait to see your faces every day again and will probably try to cuddle a lot. With all of you. Get ready. Tags: back to school. A Time for...

27 for 27 | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/27-for-27
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. Sigh… turning 27 today. I’m trying to not let the number depress me and to just enjoy the celebration and think happy thoughts about the year to come. So, here are 27 things that I either aspire to accomplish or already know I will get to enjoy in my upcoming year…. 1 Play more tennis. 2 See more live music. 3 Drink less cheap wine and more excellent wine. 4 Try sriracha… (I know, outrage that I haven’t already…). Of a yoga class. 18 Take a few...

5 Shattered Illusions | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/04/28/5-shattered-illusions
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. 1 I’m going to treat med school like a job and just do it from 9-5 each day. 2 I’m going to be studying ALL THE TIME. 3 I will find a really great study strategy and be able to focus wonderfully when using it. No I’m all over the damn place. I think I have changed my study method every single week of med school. I barely ever do that same thing twice. I know that would drive a lot of my classmates insane maybe in the end, variation ...My study ...

Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. Laws of the Lake. 1 No more shoes. All feet will be bare in the cabin, on the grass, on the beach, and in the lake. The day doesn’t count unless your feet end up blackened. 2 Drink all kinds of Michigan wine, all the time. 3 All fruit shall come from a tiny stand on the side of the road. Even better if the signs advertise “Cherrys” or “Bluberrys.” (More authentic.). 7 Be prepared to show off your ‘mallow toasting skills. So far, so good. No...

Hiatus Guilt | Totipotent MD
https://totipotentmd.wordpress.com/2014/07/07/hiatus-guilt
Stories from my medical education to feed your curious mind. I did my first full History and Physical on a standardized patient and then on an actual patient in the ED. I was introduced as “Dr.” for the first time to a patient by another physician it seems that in the ED, this is the easiest approach, rather than explaining to patients just how useless I still am as a baby M2. I signed my first lease on a condo with more than one bathroom (3, actually! I ran my first 5k! Laws of the Lake →. Fill in your ...
