Dodson Macrae Ekki Hardwood. Ekki comes from west Africa. It has an average density of 940 to 1100 kg/m3 and in durability class 1. It is immensely hard and it is not possible to hammer a nail within it without drilling a hole first. The timber does not rot even when in close contact with damp earth. Maintenance of Ekki Bridge. Maintenance is minimal. The timber requires no treatment but occasionally the bolts have to be tightened, particularly after about six months when the timber sometimes shrinks.
