300th ANNIVERSARY OF THAMES RACE. Louis Pettipher won the 300th anniversary Doggett's Coat and Badge race. Louis,24, from Gravesend,is pictured top left and below right. The race, thought to be the oldest sporting event in the world, has been contested by six young rowers over four miles between London Bridge and Chelsea since 1715. The £250 prize and the right to wear Doggett's scarlet and outfit and silver medallalion is contested by rowers who are watermen or lightermen under the age of 26.
