The blog of author Luke Phillips. June 9, 2015. June 10, 2015. As the author of a book named Shadow Beast with a marauding big cat at its heart, I couldn’t really resist the ten day ‘Indie Roar’ challenge set by The Notebook Blogairy. 1 Dead Men Should Know Better by Dominic Canty. Along the way we meet talking sharks, life-saving water pistols and encounter funny takes on the cliched staples of deadly card games and car chases. You can find out more about Dominic and the book here. The visual depictions...

The blog of author Luke Phillips. The Modern Day Man-Eaters. July 17, 2016. July 17, 2016. The statistics show that man is still very much on the menu. In sub-Saharan Africa, approximately 3,000 people are taken every year by crocodiles. 1,500 Tibetans are killed by bears. 600 Indians are preyed on by leopards whilst another 85 are taken by tigers. The king of beasts naturally tallies the most kills, with lions taking 700 people on average annually. Human-predator conflict isn’t restricted to the more fa...

Send in the Librarians. Public libraries, books and all things novel. Spooktacular Halloween Reads…. This morning, two of my team ran a fantastic Halloween Storytime and Craft event dressed as a Voodoo witch and a bat (sadly just a mask, not a full on Batman suit…) and the activity was enjoyed by around 75 children and parents! Not bad for a local town library… We just love getting involved and putting on some fun – any excuse will do! It’s scary, it’s subtle, it’s an absolute modern cl...Sarah McIntyre ...

In the meantime, travel back with me seven years to Tsavo, Kenya, the historic home of the infamous man-eaters known as The Ghost and The Darkness. But for now, in relatively raw form, may I present the prologue to The Daughters of the Darkness. TSAVO, KENYA, EAST AFRICA SEVEN YEARS AGO. All the better reason to let him sleep. What if he came for help? Kito, she whispered softly, kito? As the a...
