Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: On Steve Gerber
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2008/02/on-steve-gerber.html
Tuesday, February 12, 2008. You've gone, as they say, to some world or other. Steve Gerber died working on a script for a character called Doctor Fate. His very last blog post was called Even Quicker Update. Like a doomed character in Man-Thing. I imagine him typing as fast as his dying fingers will let him, a clock thumping on the wall, conscious of how few seconds remained, and how much was still to do. He'll never do it now. I should enumerate his achievements: Man-Thing. Set about bastardising it....

Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: July 2005
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 29, 2005. Must we burn Rob Liefeld? Avengers Vol 2 #1. I'm very much of a belief that one person's comic book opinion has the same worth as anyone else's. We pay the same money, so it's difficult to think why any one individual's opinion could possibly rise much higher than the remainder, and that includes my own. We should live and let live, not get into bitchy internet slagging matches and always remember to respect our neighbours' opinions. As I say, it's all hypothetical. Dare I suggest ...

Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: August 2005
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Song-cry of the living dead man. So now I've gone and set myself a problem. I wrote a review. Of the first volume of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, saying that I thought it was pretty good, but in some ways flawed. Greg. Very politely responded that they thought I was wrong. Which is fair enough, because it wouldn't be much fun if we all thought the same way. But then I got to thinking: what was my problem with Swamp Thing? And who wants to remember that? Disappeared. A big pil...

Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: September 2005
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 30, 2005. Ultimate Fantastic Four: Doom (#7 - #12). I was never interested in the Ultimate. Universe, mainly because I had experienced Marvel's two previous inglorious attempts, New Universe. And an awful heap of dross. New Universe. Died, and died quickly, so I figured, without paying it any attention at all, that Ultimate. Would go the same way. What I hadn't noticed was that Marvel was willing to put considerable resources into the Ultimate. Anyway, Ultimate Fantastic Four. Ellis has...

Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: After the love has gone (1)
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2008/03/after-love-has-gone-1.html
Thursday, March 27, 2008. After the love has gone (1). When I stopped reading comics, it seemed like a good idea to just let them keep coming in. My comic shop is happy to send them, I don't mind paying the money, and sooner or late, I'd thought, I'll get back into comics and start reading them again. Well, yes, but what if I don't? And I need to break away from it. But - there's always that back-of-the-mind voice - I've quit comics before, and come back. Why won't it happen again? Anyway, I know there's...

Nobody laughs at Mister Fish: Erase the mistake
http://nobodylaughsatmisterfish.blogspot.com/2008/06/erase-mistake.html
Friday, June 20, 2008. Way back when, Plok. Wrote a post about the achievement of Roy Thomas in codifying the Marvel Universe. While Stan Lee made up stuff up without consider its consistence with his other work, Roy went around the MU with a tidy brush, building a set of links between characters which made it possible to conceive of the Marvel Universe. As one entity. From that time on, it became important to link each new innovation into that central whole. But his appearance in Spider-Man. And all tho...
