The kind of courage it takes just to pitch up at a swimming lesson when you aren't that great at swimming and the coach doesn't take that much interest in you. The kind of courage it takes to go to a gala and swim in a race when you know you are the number 6 swimmer out of 7. And that is the essence of bravery. Willing to kill the cool.

Tuesday, 29 July 2014. Living In My Zone of Genius. I came across Lisa Sonora. Through a friend's blog and I absolutely fell in love with this journal page of hers. For years I have been working with and delving into what my strengths and joys are, or as she so beautifully words it, 'zone of genius', and I just love how she has made such a powerful, encouraging and inspiring commitment to herself and the world. Sunday, 27 April 2014. Endings and Beginnings" by Redi Thlabi. I've just finished reading Redi Tlhabi's book "Endings and Beginnings" for which she won the 2013 Alon Paton award. When we lived in Johannesburg, I used to really enjoy her 702 morning talk show and so I was intrigued to find out more about her and the story she wrote. My concerns for my girls are the same; doing well at school and sport; growing up to be responsible and emotionally intelligent adults and making sure they follow their dreams.
