Two Red Threads: Does Doodling Enhance Learning For You?

http://donnakallner.blogspot.com/2013/01/does-doodling-enhance-learning-for-you.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. Does Doodling Enhance Learning For You? What do you do for 10 hours in an airport when one flight after another is canceled? Normally, I would pull out some stitching. But this week, weather-related travel delays gave me a block of time to study for an online course I'm taking. It helped that I found a relatively quiet spot, one private enough that I wasn't too embarrassed to move my lips as I tried to make sense of what I was reading. I got to thinking about how being tethere...

Two Red Threads: gifts

Showing posts with label gifts. Showing posts with label gifts. Friday, December 21, 2012. The Gift Of Giving. This is the last pair of crocheted slippers I got from my grandma. I can't tell you how many pairs I wore out. But these I stopped wearing before they wore out so I could save them. I don't remember why I knew they would probably be the last pair, but I did. Picture me smiling every time I see them. Right now I'm tucked in under a Christmas quilt that was a gift made by my sister-in-law. She...

Two Red Threads: 5 Ways To Be More Productive

http://donnakallner.blogspot.com/2009/12/5-ways-to-be-more-productive.html

Thursday, December 31, 2009. 5 Ways To Be More Productive. A while back I agreed to do something that’s been making me a little crazy. Earlier this week, I worked through a 5-step plan that helped me fight the panic. Yesterday I outlined a doable plan. For meeting my goal. I know what I need to get done. Now I just need to make sure I stay at my most productive until I meet this goal. Here’s what I know I have to do. Warm Up Each Morning. Just hit the comment button. January 1, 2010 at 4:43 PM. Two Red Threads: Top Shelf Dyes Part 1

http://donnakallner.blogspot.com/2010/12/top-shelf-dyes-part-1.html

Friday, December 31, 2010. Top Shelf Dyes Part 1. When you're 5-feet-nothing, the phrase "top shelf" doesn't necessarily mean "of the best quality." Usually, it means "stuff you have to stand on a stool to get to so you don't mess with it very often." In my fall studio cleaning and dejunkifying. I realized I had better do something with the Procion H dyes on the top shelf of my dye cupboard. What you mean.". Woodland scene by Bill Kallner. Mixed with chemical water how long ago? I scrunched part of one s...

Living Willow: Coracle Project Update

http://purpleosier.blogspot.com/2011/04/coracle-project-update.html

Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Here's an update on the Upper Michigan coracle-building project. We first reported on last fall. Poppy Hatinger says their first version, made by sticking the stakes directly into the ground and woven with French randing, dried just enough under the snow over the winter that some zip ties had to be tightened. It should dry more now that (we hope) warmer weather is on the way. The seat is enclosed in the weaving on this version. Posted by Donna Kallner. This is very cool!

Stories of Cloth: The Ritual process in Art

http://storiesofcloth.blogspot.com/2010/09/ritual-process-in-art.html

A journal of my material explorations of the creative tension between longing and belonging. www.lesleysutton.co.uk www.storiesofcloth.com. Thursday, 2 September 2010. The Ritual process in Art. These ideas are feeding into my practical work; Turner suggests that ritual brings forth the unconscious into the conscious world of material thought, enabling the unknown to be understood. This is an exciting way to view the artistic act, as making visible the invisible thought. How does the material object beco...

Compost And Creativity: Looking Back To The Future

Making art, making do and making a difference with Donna Kallner. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Looking Back To The Future. Bill and I have a game we play while traveling. We ask: "What was your favorite thing / biggest surprise / most memorable moment? On a recent trip to Florida to visit my folks, one event stood out for both of us. Of course, it's an event I couldn't record because I didn't take the camera that morning (but that's another story). There's a lot of food for thought in this. Particularly...

The Art of Donna Kaminski

A sincere artist is not one who makes a faithful attempt to put on to a canvas what is in front of him/her, but one who tries to create something which is, in itself, a living thing. Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.
