Newer posts →. August 13, 2012 · 10:53 am. Low cloud over Scrabo. Above the town in which I live there stands an amazing landmark Scrabo Tower! The tower, which is visible from most of north Down, was built above the town in 1857 as a memorial to Charles Stewart, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry who was one of the Duke of Wellington’s generals during the Napoleonic Wars. Scrabo Tower is an iconic image and, hopefully, will long stand as a ‘guardian’ over Newtownards. Low cloud over Scrabo. And storm up ahead.

Paddling in the shallows →. March 5, 2013 · 12:59 pm. At the weekend I was privileged to visit Wester Deans Farm near Pencuik and was surprised to see pockets of snow still edging the fields. It reminded me of the poem below – and of the redeeming and reminding nature of snow! Like white petals of peace. Covering the ground with a pure carpet. Of cleanness and crispness. Then as the warmth comes. But the whiteness still holds on. In corners, edges, pockets. Of fields, roads, and gardens.
