My little garden plot has not received much attention. So it's all unsightly. Not many weeds, but the plants are riddled with bug holes and a lot are lanky and falling over. Maybe from not enough sun, or because the stuff they're planted in is so fluffy, they don't find substance to hold onto with the roots? The marigold at least is lush. Several weeks ago I started cutting out the worst-looking bug-eaten leaves on the little rosebush in front. Noticed a new shoot had grown where flowers were cut, so I kept going and cut off all the stems that had bugholes. It looked really sparse then for a while. Now has all grown back,. But very leggy and leaning over. I think it is seeking sun. I might relocate it next year- it always leans into the driveway and snags people walking past to the front door. Most people pinch the flower spikes off coleus, but I've been leaving a few on the plant. They're not at all impressive,. But a hummingbird visits them. We've seen it frequently- it even flies over to the tomato plants and I think visits the tithonia too. The other day my four-year-old saw it and she was so excited she was squealing. Looks like I had a small ammonia spike, too. The plants look okay- most of my aponos even have new leaves coming up! So worked on my fish trap today- making holes in the sides so current can pass through and fish won't drown. It could work as a feeding station for the kuhlis, too. Most times enough food sinks (released underwater) they get some, but they've never. Gotten any bloodworms- those only float and the barbs gobble them up so fast.
