A lovely Somerset town museum. In Times of War. St Aldhelm’s Home Press. In Times of War. At the outbreak of war in 1914 the Government requisitioned Singers to make munitions. The first contract was for racks for cordite for Nobel’s factory in South Wales. A little later they were asked to make cast brass bars for machining into fuse bodies which were 6 feet long and 1ft 6 inches in diameter, nose brushes, shrapnel sockets and parts of aeroplane engines. Between July 1915 and December 1918 the firm made.

James Fussell IV (1748-1832) was, in addition to his ironworks interests, an active promoter and proprietor of the aborted Dorset and Somerset Canal, for which he successfully designed, patented and had built an ingenious ‘balance lock’ or boat lift; he also patented a number of other inventions. A lovely Somerset town museum. In Times of War. St Aldhelm’s Home Press. A moulder had a highly important and exacting job requiring great skills if the casting was not to be flawed. Singers made the memorial tablets for the Memorial Hall in Frome, Leonard making the wreaths of leaves surmounting its list of names. He died in 1986, aged 88.
