Our story goes back to the time of John Wesley, as the plaque in West Street commemorates. Until the 1970s, there was a Methodist Church in South Street. When that was sold and demolished, the congregation moved to St Martin's Parish Church to become part of St Martin's Shared Church, now a Local Ecumenical Partnership. There has been a church on the site of the present church of St. Martin since the early 11th century and the building you see today with its 210-ft spire was completed in 1877. We are very fortunate in having support from the Friends of St Martin's. In helping us maintain this fine Victorian building.
