Dorothy's threads of life: Progress.

http://dorothysthreadsoflife.blogspot.com/2015/06/progress.html

Dorothy's threads of life. Patchwork, Knitting,Embroidery and Wool. Sunday, June 14, 2015. This weeks two Stars are Chintzes, both polished and cotton. The star on the right has lost most of it's sheen because I washed the fabric. And a change from the last blog. Three finished. They will surround the big red flowers but the baskets will be on the outside edge. The background fabric. Has a pattern so I have sewn the applique on to keep it running in the same direction after I sew the blocks together.

Dorothy's threads of life: February 2015

http://dorothysthreadsoflife.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Dorothy's threads of life. Patchwork, Knitting,Embroidery and Wool. Sunday, February 8, 2015. I'm still sewing the wallhanging which can't be revealed yet but here's another 'critter'. That has found a place to hang on to. A Green Tree Frog. And when I wasn't at the sewing machine I finished another block for the Under the Cherry Tree quilt. It was such a beautiful day I washed my Civil War Brides quilt and with the wind blowing it has dried and is ready to use. One of my favourites. Links to this post.

http://dorothysthreadsoflife.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Dorothy's threads of life. Patchwork, Knitting,Embroidery and Wool. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Two sewn and two to go. I tend to spend a day getting the next block prepared in whatever is on the go and then I can just pick them up and sew a bit now and then. This is how the second block for the Mrs Millar's quilt got sewn, along with all the other bit and pieces. Yesterday was prep day so I have No3 ready to go and the next block for Under the Cherry Tree too. Links to this post. Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

G'nT Sisters: December 2014

http://ginandthreadsisters.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, 21 December 2014. I thought I would just sneak in a quick post before Christmas to give an update on what we (well actually just me) have been doing. After last month's retreat where Sofie and Lynne laid out their blocks I thought I needed to do the same so that I could refine my colour choices for the last few blocks. Not that you can see the colours all that well as it was a hot day so I had most of our blinds closed. Auditioning a few selections for a couple more blocks. I pinned the triangles...

G'nT Sisters: August 2015

http://ginandthreadsisters.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, 2 August 2015. Our G'nT get-together was very exciting this month as Judy and I both had quilts on display as part of the Australian Applique Guild's display at this year's. Victorian Quilters Showcase exhibition. I had my Antique Wedding Sampler (re-visited). Lynne, Judy, Me and Sofie. A Quilt Angel showing the label for my AWS. And Judy had her 'Bunny Love'. Then it was back to Judy's and a case of 'Occupy the Dining Table! It's amazing how we can manage to keep track of what belongs to who.

Every Stitch: Wheat and Woods

http://everystitchblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/wheat-and-woods.html

Monday, 10 August 2015. My new quilt is progressing quite quickly. I only showed a snippet last post as I had to sort a few design "issues" (grrr) that I had with it. Now there is more to show. Might be a. Here is the broderie perse centre for the quilt - all cut from Tree of Life. It was a bit of a mess at first auditioning the pieces - so hard to visualise at that stage! Some drafting of patterns. Am I making it sound simple? Well I didn't find it that way! Then some needle turn applique. Now for somet...

Every Stitch: The Burnt Quilt

http://everystitchblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-burnt-quilt.html

Wednesday, 7 November 2012. I have been working on The Burnt Quilt aka "Oh dear, Mrs Tompkins" (Di Ford's lovely reproduction pattern ) - using the Dutch chintz central panel in the centre. I am also using a small stash of Dutch chintz florals in the big stars, though I hate chopping them up. If you know the pattern, you might see I have avoided doing the tricky inner borders by replacing them with appliqued red stars (fun to do with English paper piecing) . That is what I am working on at the moment.

Every Stitch: Merry Christmas!

http://everystitchblog.blogspot.com/2014/12/merry-christmas.html

Wednesday, 24 December 2014. I didn't think I'd manage it, but here it is . a Christmas post. Nothing like a last minute deadline. I finished the hand quilting on my Four Block applique quilt. And bound it just in time to hang it with the Christmas tree. And when I say "not perfection" that includes nicking the background with my scissors (insert ladylike expletive at the time) - not just once, but twice -. Making two little holes! Wedding quilt: Block 12 finished - a relatively simple one this time.

dorothystewartblog | about writing and life and God

About writing and life and God. A time for everything. It’s a glorious golden autumn day here in the East of England. The sun shines on trees still proudly waving their fluttering flags of autumn leaves. The builders clambering around scaffolding on a nearby house have cheerful music playing on their radio. There’s a huge removals van at the house opposite as my neighbour moves across town, and next week there will be a repeat as my neighbour on the other side also moves away. I’ll miss them. But I&#8217...

So I've Been Thinking...

So I've Been Thinking. Saturday, 7 March 2015. I am Not a Vegetarian. One Sunday I was talking with my class about the idea of giving up meat if it caused a fellow believer to sin. They were horrified at the very thought. I love that class. One of them argued that squirrels are fruit because we get them from trees. It was an interesting thought (and yes, he has shot and eaten a squirrel). Anyway, I bring you my justification for not killing vegetables:. Links to this post. Saturday, 21 February 2015.

Dorothy's threads of life

Dorothy's threads of life. Patchwork, Knitting,Embroidery and Wool. Wednesday, May 17, 2017. I like the look of a sawtooth surrounding a border, it's just the hassle of making them. This time I cut all the triangles first and made them, paper-piecing, with freezer paper and this not only made them easier to do but much quicker. With the blocks in place and the sawtooth attached it's on to the next round. I'm off for a three day retreat next week so hopefully more to show after it. Links to this post.
