Dorset Diggers Community Archaeology Group. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Trench 3 now open. Trench 3 has already produced pottery, probably 1st c., and looks to be good for more. We need to date this enclosure so as to compare it to the southern one, so all the finds we can get the better. More news and pics later. Wednesday, 15 July 2015. DDCAG members went to see the Bournmouth University dig where it was reported that they had evidence of c.200 Iron Age roundhouses, probably not all contemporary. Alison, ...

Dorset Diggers Community Archaeology Group: August 2014

http://www.dorsetdiggers.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Dorset Diggers Community Archaeology Group. Saturday, 30 August 2014. Our first trench is now coming to an end and we have made great progress with the ditch. One more day digging and we should be at the base and have a full profile. Meanwhile it continues to produce some great pottery fragments:. Most of the pottery has been very high class and today we also had a bag full of bone, which we will have an expert examine to determine the species. Last time we were on site we found this:. It is looking as i...

Dorset Diggers Community Archaeology Group: July 2014

http://www.dorsetdiggers.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Dorset Diggers Community Archaeology Group. Monday, 28 July 2014. Had a sunny day for our Open Day at Nether Compton. Displays (including Yeovil Metal Detecting Club), site visits and sand pits for kids to dig in (thanks to Context One Archaeology for supplying the sand), plus a Roman soldier to talk to. The tea and cake were not bad too. Thanks to all that came to help out. Wednesday, 23 July 2014. Pot, sweat and tears. The ditch was turning up lots of building material plus more BBW of high quality.
