L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. June 27, 2015. As I mentioned last week. I loved Suzy Ismail. 8216;s presentation on “Writing Across Cultures.” With #WNDB. And the landmark Supreme Court decisions lately, it seems a particularly timely one. Reinforcement came from her reference to the author Debby Dahl Edwardson. That the same skills needed to write across cultures are the same needed to be a good writer. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. A lapsed librarian, I spend my days reading, writing, critiquing, and otherwise enjoying all things literary. Especially kid lit! Books truly are my life – I know my library card number better than my PIN number.😉. Issues near and dear to my heart are those concerning diversity in publishing, childhood literacy, and public libraries. I hope you enjoy the blog, and if you’re so inclined, I can be found at:. 7 thoughts on “ About. My kids will love them!

The name game | L is for Literary

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. June 5, 2014. 8220;A my name is Alice and my boyfriend’s name is Andy, we live in Atlanta and we eat apples! How many of you remember playing this game, either jumping rope or bouncing a ball? Do kids even play this anymore? Which means we as writers take a lot of care with naming our characters, and so I’d like to list a few resources I find helpful in choosing names, along with my method, such as it is. At last week’s Kids Author Carnival. From the Gr...

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. November 2, 2016. Last week I visited the Met. I don’t go nearly as often as I should, but often enough that I became a member. (I know, it’s a “suggested” entry fee, but I always felt guilty paying so much less.). Trying out all the beds. Even when I’m expecting an exhibit, it can surprise me. I knew that Printing A Child’s World. Was on view, but it was still delightful to turn a corner and walk into the exhibit unexpectedly. The House that Jack Built.

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. August 6, 2015. Just imagine The Bangles’ song. Playing in your head, okay? Z is for Zampetti. Will be on hiatus for the next two weeks, while I enjoy a summer vacation of my own and pick up my child from hers. I originally thought I’d just post earlier or later in the week to make up for it, but then this little voice inside my head whispered…. 8220;Let it go.”. Is not my conscience. (Neither is Jiminy Cricket. This time, though, I’m letting go. I̵...

Summer reading | L is for Literary
https://zampettilw.wordpress.com/2015/07/23/summer-reading-2
L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. July 23, 2015. Recently I came across this post about re-reading Harry Potter. I realized it had been some time since I’d read the books (re-read, really), and I decided to read them again. The whole shebang! Luckily I read fast.🙂. As I read them, I thought about how J.K. Rowling is often knocked for not being a very good writer, for breaking many of the “rules,” for lacking diversity in her books. As for the lack of diversity, there’s more than ...

Setting the pace | L is for Literary

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. July 2, 2015. One last workshop review from NJSCBWI15! I promise next week I’ll move on to different topics. Maybe even a couple of book reviews…. When we talk about pacing in a book, many of us immediately think about plot. The three act structure. Rising and falling action. Saving the cat. All well and good. But pacing is more than just plot and action, and John Cusick. I notice pacing a great deal – not just in terms of plot points but in terms...

Lazy summer days | L is for Literary
https://zampettilw.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/lazy-summer-days
L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. July 9, 2015. I’m enjoying some sunshine and sea this week while visiting my folks. While sand in the shoes is okay, sand in the chips – my trusty laptop is along for the ride – is not. So this week’s post is short and sweet. My goal for this summer is a competed first draft of a new book, and the #Kidlit SummerSchool 2015. Will help me on my way! How cute is Joyce Wan. Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddle. 2 thoughts on “ Lazy summer days. Follow L is...

L is for Literary. Too many books. Too little time. Say it again, Sam. July 30, 2015. July 30, 2015. I’m digging into the hard work of a first draft this summer, and one of the things I love about writing is writing dialogue. Talk, talk, talk – I’m all about the talking, as anyone who’s met me knows. (In my defense, I’m often told that while I am chatty, to say the least, I’m never boring.🙂 ). Today when I read the Children’s Writer eNews newsletter. From the Institute of Children’s Literature. Keep adv...
