I'm moving house this tomorrow and my wife is having our first child in a few weeks so 92L2 progress will be on hold but my friend managed to find a few NOS (New old stock) Douglas Vespa items including a 92L2 Amal carb, still in it's box! More news to follow when I get time in-between DIY and being a father! Wednesday, 14 January 2015. I was very pleased to hear the engine start, it may have been the first time that the engine ran for decades!

There seems to be a fuel/carburettor issue, the scooter won't start easily and tries to die straight away, partially blocking the air intake on the carb box helps it run better but it's still not 100% right and it's either not getting enough fuel due to blocked carb jets/incorrect needle setting or it's drawing in too much air from a blown oil seal.hopefully it's the former and not the latter! According to the R.V Bryant book "Vespa - A practical guide" the following specification of carburettor apply to the Douglas 42L2 and 92L2 models:. 42L2 - AMAL 561/1. 92L2 - AMAL 561/2. If anyone has a 561/2 carb on their 92L2 then please let me know, I'd love to see one and it would be interesting to see what the differences are because as far as I know the 42L2 and 92L2 engines are the same so assumed that they would use the same carburettor.

Douglas Vespa 92L2 restoration. Monday, 29 December 2014. After another long absence away from updating this blog I now have a bit of spare time to go back and retrospectively add some of the updates to the restoration progress. I did manage to get the scooter ready for my wedding, it was used as an ornament in the wedding reception and looked bloody lovely! I didn't quite manage to finish the engine work, the fuel tap was leaking and carb seemed to have issues but everything else was complete.

Douglas Vespa 92L2 restoration. Monday, 28 January 2013. The new tank arrived! Exciting news today because the new petrol tank arrived! Now, without wanting to sound too much like the SIP marketing department, I was mightily impressed with how the new tank was packaged, it was like unwrapping a present on Xmas day! Opening the box reveals a fabric drawstring bag. Within the bag the new tank is wrapped in an aged faux-1958 British Vespa news! Now that is attention to detail! Nice detailing on the tank.

Douglas Vespa 92L2 restoration. Monday, 21 October 2013. It's been a while (again! Since my last update, but I now have my 92L2 back from Voodoo VW and look at the fantastic job they have done, all the dents and unnecessary holes are gone and everything has been coated in the lovely understated shade of Piaggio grey 135/Max Meyer 15048.
