Thursday, November 24, 2005. Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth,. O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! So, so many things to be thankful for.

Saturday, March 04, 2006. The Sovereignty of Sovereignty. So, what is the point then of praying to God, asking Him to intercede in people's affairs, if He cannot transgress man's free will? Why ask God to fatten an anorexic young girl since He would have to violate her free will to do so? Why pray for a young teenager who is pregnant out of wedlock to be deterred from getting an abortion if that is what she has set her mind to do? But someone may say that the doctor would like to have this increased abil...

Theology, fiction, music and baseball. All from a Montavilla basement. Laquo; In Memory of the Old Times. January 17, 2011 by adamsteward. I’ve been reading through some of Martin Luther King’s speeches this morning, and reading this passage from “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence”. Have they forgotten that my ministry is in obedience to the one who loved his enemies so fully that he died for them? Can I threaten them with death or must I not share with them my life? Theology, fiction, music and baseball. All from a Montavilla basement. Laquo; Western skies and me on your side. To share in his suffering is to share in his glory. Isn’t this the guy who wrote an essay called “The Poverty of Niebuhrianism”? October 29, 2010 by adamsteward. John Milbank has an essay. In either case also, for (Rebecca) West, the issue is whether a tradition that includes a significant refusal of ‘cruelty’ can itself reluctantly embrace violence from time to time. It is thus tempting to re...

Monday, January 30, 2006. A Point of Law. I find it very interesting (and very sad) that we as Christians so often. Miss that in fulfilling the law rather than abolishing it, Christ has. Raised the standard, not lowered it. Can you imagine what how the people felt when Christ made the point that the law was a matter of spiritual disposition rather than mere physical action (or inaction, as the case be)? I knew I couldn't kill a man., but not even be angry with him? Posted by Ian @ 8:44 PM. It's actually ...

Monday, September 26, 2005. The Parable of the Beaten Jew: Part 5 -The Impossible Task. How can we love our neighbor, how can we care for him in his need when we ourselves are helpless? Quite simply, WE CAN'T. Now, then, let's go back and reconsider the question posed to us. The question that started me on this whole topic, the question that has been so horribly and incorrectly answered for so long. How do we answer the question, "How do we love our neighbor? WE ARE BEATEN, NAKED, AND DYING! But, if the ...

Monday, October 03, 2005. Every month Michelle and I get a e-newsletter from Veritas Press, the company we order our kid's home schooling stuff from. This month's edition included a pretty interesting article concerning Halloween. Now, I don't think that it's a secret to anyone that knows us Graves boys (can I still use that term? It keeps me from feeling too old! Oh, yah. BOO! What is the means by which the demonic realm is vanquished? The gargoyles that were placed on the churches of old had the same m...
