A Gen Xer Looks at Forty. Sunday, November 10, 2013. Giving the Boot the Boot. I’m officially one week out of the walking boot that I was confined to for 8 weeks (that’s two full months, folks) after breaking my foot in September training for a half marathon. To say that this has been a long two months would be a drastic understatement. From a purely physical standpoint, the boot weighed four pounds (yes, I put it on the scale) and went with me everywhere…including to bed. Asking for and accepting help.

A Gen Xer Looks at Forty. Sunday, March 30, 2014. There have been some questions lately about where I’m going or what I’m doing so I thought this was the best way to answer them as well as talk through everything that’s been going on with me the past couple of months. So I’ll just spit it out: I’m moving. To Austin, Texas. I went down for a weekend, not my first time there, but my first time there scouting it out as a potential place to live, and I had one of the best weekends in recent memory. Funny how...

That’s hard for me to admit in some ways because the idea of doing a cleanse is just so, well, Colorado. Eight years is a long time, however, and a testament that one’s opinions can, in fact, change. I decided to do this because I made the commitment to be focused on wellness in 2013. As we get older and begin to drink alcohol, we pop a bottle of champagne when w...

A Gen Xer Looks at Forty. Tuesday, April 29, 2014. My Life on Hooker Street. I took a bath tonight. That in and of itself isn’t very noteworthy, but what struck me while I was in the bath is: this is the last bath I’ll take in my house. The packers come on Friday and the movers come Monday and we leave for Austin early Tuesday morning. More than this being the last bath I will take in my house, this will be the last night I spend alone in it. I have had my heart broken here, but I have also had it resurr...

A Gen Xer Looks at Forty. Sunday, December 16, 2012. Evil Comes to Connecticut. This is a tough one to write, but I feel I have to do it, if for no other reason than to try to gain some perspective myself. On Friday morning my mother called me as I was just getting home from the gym. I answered, “What’s up? 8221; as she doesn’t usually call me in the middle of the day on a weekday. I grew up just a few towns away. Just as I picked up the phone to call her, she sent me a text. The numbers seemed to rise a...
