Monday, January 16, 2012. Highlights from our Homeschool Week. We started a study on the country Brazil. And a unit on the state of Hawaii. With making observations on various tropical fruit. My daughter's similes on a horned melon: "It's like a desert with volcanoes all over it," and "It's orange and yellow, like honey." It lead us into the discussion afterward of what similes are. Had some normal school and dance time, and then enjoyed an afternoon playdate with some of our favorite homeschool friends.

Praying Mantis: The kids jarred a praying mantis with dad and we continued with our fun insect studies (recently also enjoyed adventures with Click Beetles. During math time with our oldest, our youngest stays (mostly) occupied with puzzles, or playing with various math manipulatives as we learn. Making orange people, a craft my daughter thought up to create "Little Miss Helpful".

Friday, June 20, 2014. Our GEN3 Pledge, and the Healing Power of God. It was a reflective day at the start of May for me, down the coast of Lake Michigan. I went to pay respect to my childhood stepsister, who had just died of cancer. I had a lot to think about on the trip. Two days later, we saw Focus on the Family's movie, " Irreplaceable. It tackled this issue full-on and took us right to the heart of redemption. It was extremely powerful. I needed it. We need it, as a society. But wait, there's more.
